Front Wiper Unit and Motor

NOTE:
- If link arms are out of position, start repairs at "Wiper Motor Linkage."
- If special radio interference suppressor is fitted, you must reinstall it before releasing the vehicle to it's owner.

Removal:





- Turn ignition off.
- Check that wiper motor is in off position, move wiper switch to wipe position, then to off.

Removal:





- Undo nut, do it up a few turns to protect threads on wiper mechanism shaft.
- Remove wiper arm from wiper mechanism by holding nut with polygrip pliers and pushing arm off.
- Remove nut.





- Remove cover panel screws.
- Undo cover panel drain hoses.
- Remove Cover panel.





- Remove wiper unit screws.
- Remove wiper unit, pulling it out so it comes free from its plug-in mount.
- Undo connectors.
- Remove wiper unit. Turn wiper unit over to reveal underneath.





- Mark crank arm.
- Remove crank arm nut from wiper motor shaft.
- Remove crank arm.





- Remove wiper motor screws.

Installation:





- Connect 12 V supply to wiper motor to ensure that wiper motor assumes off position.
- Install wiper motor.
- Install screws.
- Install crank arm (align marks).
- Apply thread sealing compound, part no. 116 1053-2, to motor shaft threads.
- Tighten nut (torque setting 20 Nm/15 ft.lbf). Use 26 mm fixed spanner as counterhold on crank arm when tightening nut to torque setting.
- Connect connectors and tie lead as above.





- Install wiper unit, fit into plug.in mount and fit screws.
- Connect connectors.
- Test wiper unit.





- Install cover panel.
- Install cover panel screws.
- Install drain hoses.

Installation:





- Install wiper arms.
- Fit nut hand tight.
- Adjust wiper arm position as in Image.
- Tighten nut: Torque setting, 16 Nm (12 ft/lbf).
