Wiper motor link arm adjustment

A revised setting of the front wiper motor link arm has been introduced on production from VIN 854-166000, 855-70000. When a wiper motor is replaced on any 850 the new motor should be set according to the following instructions, using the template.

The revised setting parks the motor armature in the optimum position minimizing carbon build up and extending motor life.

When setting the link arms it is assumed the wiper motor stopped in its stop position (it does this automatically when the windshield wipers are turned off using the control stalk in the car).

- Copy the templates and cut out the copy.
- Loosen nut to the crank link on the wiper motor shaft.
- Place template on the wiper mechanism base.
- Adjust the crank link arms using the template.

Remarks:

Extending the link arm which is located nearest the windshield wiper unit and motor shaft makes an angle of 166.1 degrees, see illustration.

- Press down the crank link on the motor shaft serrations.
- Remove template.
- Apply thread sealant liquid P/N 1161053-2 on the motor shaft threads.
- Tighten nuts to 20 Nm (14 ft. lbs). Use 26 mm fixed head wrench as counter on the crank link when the nut is tightened to the correct torque.
- Install wiper unit according to LAE8-LAE10 in the service manual referred to above.
- Verify function and adjust if required until unit is operating satisfactorily. See Service Bulletin 36-804 regarding positioning and adjusting wiper arms.
