New design of windshield support strip
(Applies to top of windshield)
A modified support strip, P/N 9154226-6, has been developed to increase the contact surface for PUR adhesive. The support strip was introduced into production from the following chassis numbers:
Model Factory Code Chassis no.s
854 2 120413-
855 2 029185-
Although the new support strip is the same height as before, the support lip in contact with the upper body flange has been removed. This increases the contact surface of the PUR bead along the upper body flange, increasing the area of the seal and reducing the risk of leakage.

Position and center strip on upper body flange. The two white tabs on the backing plastic in the middle of the strip should be facing up/back.
Holding the strip with one hand grip one of the backing plastic tabs with the other hand.
Pull off the backing plastic and, starting from the middle, press the strip onto the flange. Press the strip into place in both directions.
The windshield support strip may sometimes come away from the adhesive on the body flange. This can cause the trim to come loose.
Parts required:
- Service kit 9151902-5
The service kit contains:
^ foam rubber diameter 4.5 mm (11/64")
^ hard rubber diameter 4.0 mm (5/32")
Method
- Remove the trim strip.
- Press the foam rubber into place with the blunt side of a weatherstrip tool.
- Press the hard rubber strip into place in the same way.
Hint:
The foam and hard rubber strips can be dampened with water or a soap solution to make installation easier.
Using the blunt side of the weatherstrip tool means that the rubber strip will be positioned so that it holds the support strip in place against the body flange.
