1. Separate fluid reservoir from pump.
a. Use screwdriver and adjustable pliers. Raise locking tabs in clips and press out clips with pliers.
b. Remove O-ring between pump and reservoir.
2. Remove drive pulley from pump. Use puller.
3. Remove control valve from pump housing. Remove nut, control valve and spring. Remove O-ring from nut.
4. Remove:
a. Pump shaft and bearing from housing.
b. Snap ring (circlip). Withdraw shaft and bearing from housing. Use press tool to obtain better grip on shaft.
5. Measure bearing position on shaft. Note dimension.
NOTE: New bearing must be installed in same position on shaft.
6. Press bearing off pump shaft.
7. Remove shaft seal. Use screwdriver, taking care to avoid damage to pump housing.
NOTE: Matchmark end cover and housing by scribing.
8. Remove end cover locking ring:
a. Press out ring by inserting drift in hole in pump housing.
b. Remove ring with screwdriver.
9. Separate end cover from pump housing.
a. Mount pump horizontally in vise. This is necessary to ensure that rotor does not fall out of housing when cover is removed.
b. Use drift. Tap out pressure plate center guide, but only sufficiently to release end cover from housing. Remove cover.
c. Carefully turn pump housing upward so that rotor does not fall out.
10. Remove:
- O-ring from pump housing.
- Pump ring locating pins.
- Pump ring.
- Rotor and vanes.
- Pressure plate.
- O-ring from pressure plate.
- Pressure plate locating pin.
- Spring.
- O-ring from retainer in pump housing.
11. Tap out O-ring retainer from pump housing. Use drift.
12. Wash and inspect all components thoroughly. Replace damaged or worn components.
CAUTION: Always oil new components, as well as machined surfaces of pump housing, with ATF fluid prior to installation.
NOTE: O-rings/seals must be replaced in all cases. Oil components prior to installation.
