Evaporative Emission Control Canister: Service and Repair
Removing Fender Liner
- Remove left front wheel.
- Remove fender liner fixed with 3 plastic nuts and 9 rivets. Use a drill to remove the rivets.
Removing EVAP Canister
- Remove EVAP canister and disconnect EVAP canister hoses.
- The EVAP canister is removed by turning the long screw. The long screw is mounted in the bracket so that when the hexagonal screw head is turned (several turns) the clamp on the top edge of the bracket is raised and the EVAP canister can be lifted out.
Installing Large Hose
- Move the clip/holder to the new EVAP canister.
- Connect the large hose to the EVAP canister. Use a new clamp.
- The EVAP canister is removed by turning the long screw.
NOTE: It is important to use the correct clamp to avoid fuel leakage at the joint.
Installing Thin Hoses
- Connect the two thin hoses to the EVAP canister as follows:
- The hose from the fuel tank has a small cast collar on it's rubber sleeve connector. This hose should be connected to the canister connector marked "TANK".
- The other hose, that goes to the canister purge (CP) valve, should be connected to the EVAP canister connector marked "PURGE".
Installing EVAP Canister
- Locate the EVAP canister and screw into place. Check that the upper clamp has gripped the top edge of the EVAP canister properly.
- Attach the large hose to the clip/holder mounted on the outside of the EVAP canister.
- Check that the large hose is properly mounted so that it will not rattle when the fender liner has been installed.
Installing Fender Liner
- Install fender liner. Use a new rivets.
- Reinstall left front wheel.
