High Idling Speed
HIGH IDLING SPEEDPreconditions
^ DTCs absent.
^ Engine is hot.
^ Fault is permanent.
Fault Sources
^ Throttle cable sticking.
^ Throttle Body (TB) incorrectly adjusted.
^ Air leakage.
^ Defective Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve.
TESTING PROCEDURE
Checking the Throttle Cable
^ Check that the throttle cable is not sticking or moving sluggishly.
^ Then continue with: Checking the Throttle Opening.
Checking the Throttle Opening
^ START the engine and let it run at idling speed.
^ Read off the throttle angle value.
Throttle angle should be 3 - 8° with a closed throttle.
If the value is OK:
- Check for air leakage in the intake system.
If the reading is incorrect:
- Adjust the TB and control pulley.
Checking for Air Leakage in the Intake System
^ Check if there is any air leakage.
If there is no air leakage:
- Check for air leakage in the exhaust system.
If there is air leakage:
- Rectify as necessary.
Checking for Air Leakage in the Exhaust System
^ Check if there is any air leakage in the exhaust system.
If there is no air leakage:
- Check the IAC valve's connector.
If there is leakage:
- Rectify as necessary.
Checking the IAC Valve's Connector
^ Clean and grease the ECM's and IAC valve's connector.
If the symptoms remain:
- Test with a new IAC valve.
