Vehicles With VDO Instrument Panel

Prior to model year 1996 the service reminder indicator (SRI) on a VDO instrument panel could be reset either manually or with the use of a Volvo Diagnostic key (ST).

Resetting (SRI) manually prior to model year 1996

Diagnostic Connectors:

The Service Reminder Indicator (SRI) must be reset using the Diagnostic Connector found in the engine compartment. (Specificity Diagnostic Connector "A")
1. Switch ON the ignition.

Diagnostic Connector A In Position #7:

2. Select position 7 on Diagnostic Connector A.
3. Depress the button four (4) times, shortly but distinctly.
- You have now entered Test Mode 4.
- When the LED emits a steady glow, system is ready to accept code.

CODE: 1-5-1
Display Text: Zero Service Timer
Remarks: Service reminder indicator goes out.

4. Enter first digit while LED is still glowing. Wait until LED starts to emit steady glow again before entering second digit. Repeat procedure for third digit.
5. Wait for conformation from control module by LED giving a couple of rapid flashes. Zeroing is completed and Service Reminder Indicator is OFF.

The indicator lamp illuminates for approx. 2 minutes each time the engine is started until service has been performed and counter reset.

Resetting (SRI) with Volvo diagnostic key (ST) prior to model year 1996
- Insert memory module in ST. (check that you are using the correct module)
- Connect ST connector to connector terminal A or B (gray or black)
- Connect battery cables to battery, red to + terminal.
- Switch ignition on.
- Scroll down to A7 COMB. INSTR.
- Go to DTM 4 - Settings (Resetting service counter and changing transmission speed)
- Follow instructions on display.




Starting in model year 1996 vehicles were equipped with OBDII service ports located above the gear shift panel, requiring the use of a Volvo scan tool (ST) to reset the service reminder indicator (SRI).

Resetting (SRI) manually from model year 1996
There is no procedure for manually resetting the service reminder indicator (SRI) for model year 1996 and newer as the A/B diagnostic connector has been replaced with an OBDII diagnostic connector located above the gear shift panel.

Resetting (SRI) using Volvo scan tool (ST) from model year 1996
The service reminder indicator (SRI) is lit for two minutes each time the engine is started until it is reset after the next service.



- Ignition on.
- Connect Volvo Scan Tool (ST) to the data link connector (DLC).
- Power up the Volvo Scan Tool (ST).

The screen displays: SELF TEST OK
- Select: LANGUAGE
- Press: ENTER
- Select: 800 SERIES
- Press: ENTER
- Select: SERVICE
- Press: ENTER
- Select: RESET SRI
- Press: EXIT
