Identifying Your Instrument Panel
VDO Instrument Cluster:
VDO Instrument Cluster W/Turbo:
Yazaki Instrument Cluster:
There are two types of instrument cluster: the microprocessor- based VDO and the simpler Yazaki version. The main difference between the VDO and Yazaki instrument panels is that the Yazaki has no:
- Diagnostics system.
- Service reminder light (Except USA/CAN).
- Trip computer, as there is no microprocessor.
The easiest way of telling whether a instrument cluster is a VDO or Yazaki is to look at the outside.
The Yazaki has:
- Distinctly separate instrument modules.
- The odometer and trip meter are located above and below the speedometer needle respectively.
- The speedometer and tachometer scales are located outside the numbers.
- The tachometer is marked in 8 x 1000 rpm.
The VDO has:
- The odometer and trip odometer are located below the needle on the speedometer.
- The dashes on the scale of the speedometer and tachometer are inside their digits.
- The tachometer is graduated into 7 x 1,000 rpm (for diesel 5 x 1,000 rpm).
- The trip odometer reset button is located on the left- hand side.
