Diagnostic Functions

This function allows stored diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), counters and frozen values to be read off and erased. The on-board diagnostic (OBD) system can identify 15 different faults in the form of diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). For fault-tracing, CI Codes (Combined Instrument Panel)

Diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) can only be erased when all stored diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) have been read off at least once.

For all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) the value of 15 different parameters are frozen and stored at the same time as the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored.

The following frozen values can be read:
- Vehicle speed, value
- Engine speed (RPM), value
- Engine coolant temperature (ECT), value
- Lowest registered fuel level, value
- Fuel level signal to needle, value
- Generator (GEN) charge voltage D+, status
- Oil pressure in engine, status
- Fuel level warning lamp, status
- Service reminder indicator (SRI), status
- Fuel level signal to trip computer, status
- 12 pulse vehicle speed signal, status
- 48 pulse vehicle speed signal, status
- Signal to speedometer, status
- Time since last service, value
- Total mileage, value

For further information about frozen values, see Frozen values for diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). Other Parameter Tables

Activating Components:
Using this function the system gauges and two warning lamps can be activated in order to check that the signals from the control module components are correct. On activation the needles on the gauges go from minimum to maximum and back to their original position. At the same time the warning lamps flash.

The following components can be activated simultaneously:
- Speedometer
- Fuel gauge
- Temperature gauge
- Tachometer
- Service reminder indicator (SRI)
- Fuel level warning lamp

For further information about activation, see Activating components/functions. Other Parameter Tables

Reading Off Input and Output Signals
Using this function the values and status of the control module input and output signals can be continuously read off.

The following parameters can be read off:
- Vehicle speed, value
- Fuel level signal to needle, value
- Fuel level signal from sensor, value
- Engine coolant temperature (ECT), value
- Engine speed (RPM), value
- Generator (GEN) charge voltage D+, status
- Oil pressure in engine, status
- Fuel level warning lamp, status
- Service reminder indicator (SRI), status
- Fuel level signal to trip computer, status
- 12 pulse vehicle speed signal, status
- 48 pulse vehicle speed signal, status
- Vehicle speed signal to speedometer, status

For further information about parameters, see Volvo Scan Tool (ST) scrolling value. Other Parameter Tables

Reading Off Control Module Identification:
The Volvo Scan Tool (ST) identifies the control module by reading a code from the control module memory. This code contains information about the control module P/N.

Resetting Service Reminder Indicator (SRI):
When this function is activated the three service interval counters are reset at the same time as values are stored in the control module.

Reading Off And Programming Combined Instrument Panel:
Using this function programmed data can be read off and data can be programmed into the control module. This allows the combined instrument panel to be programmed for different markets and engine types.

NOTE:
- After programming the control module the ignition must be switched off and on again before the programmed values can be read off.
- Before replacing the printed circuit board or combined instrument panel all data must be read off the control module. After replacement the new data must be programmed into the new control module. If programming is not carried out the service reminder indicator (SRI) will flash while the car is being driven. If the total mileage cannot be read off the control module the meter reading on the instrument panel can be read off in order to reprogram the combined instrument panel.

All the following parameters can be read off. Some can also be programmed.

- P/N (Part Number):
Indicates combined instrument panel P/N. The P/N can only be programmed once. Only program it when replacing the printed circuit board.
- Turbo
Indicates if the instrument panel has a boost pressure gauge.
- Engine speed
Indicates maximum engine speed (RPM) on the tachometer scale.
- Market code
Coding for different markets. The letters indicate the market and digits indicate the speedometer scale (in km or miles, depending on the market).

NOTE:
- When the market code is programmed for the first time the speedometer scale is entered as km or miles. The scale cannot be changed.
- Take care to find out the correct market code.

- Manipulation of speedometer:
Indicates in hours how long the vehicle speed signal to the combined instrument panel has been disabled. This parameter is read-only.
- Total mileage
Indicates total mileage in km or miles. The control module updates the mileage every 16 km/10 miles. The programmed mileage is rounded down to the nearest divisible value.

CAUTION: This parameter can only be programmed once. In addition, programming must be carried out before the control module registered mileage passes 100 km (62 miles).

- Mileage at service:
Indicates the mileage at the last service in km or miles. This parameter is read-only.
- Mileage between services
Indicates predetermined service interval in km or miles.

NOTE: Take care to find out the correct service interval.

- Time since service:
Indicates time in months since last service. This parameter is read-only.

NOTE: Take care to find out the correct service interval.

- Time between services:
Indicates predetermined service interval in months.
- Engine hours since service
Indicates engine operating time in hours since last service. This parameter is read-only.
- Engine hours between services Indicates predetermined service interval in engine hours.

NOTE: Take care to find out the correct service interval.

- Speed warning:
The speed warning is only available for the Saudi Arabian market.
A warning signal sounds if vehicle speed exceeds 120 km/h (74 mph).
The parameter is programmed when the Saudi Arabia market code is selected.
When the speed warning is not activated 284 km/h is displayed.
- Programming
Indicates if the total mileage is programmed or not. This parameter is read-only.
- Tire size
Indicates tire size in order to calibrate the speedometer. The control module uses the wheel circumference and speed to calculate the correct speed reading.

NOTE: The tire size should only be programmed when replacing the printed circuit board. Tire size is NOT available in older control module versions.
