Fault Tracing Overview

Read off and note diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and frozen values.
- If communication with the Volvo Scan Tool (ST) cannot be established, Control Module Communication
Fault Tracing Using ST:
Are one or more diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) stored?
No: Skip to "Symptoms" below.
Yes: Continue with following.
- Remedy diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) according to instructions and then erase them. CI Codes (Combined Instrument Panel)
- Turn ignition off.
- Test drive the car.
- Have one or more diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) been stored again?
Yes: Repeat above procedure.
No: Do the fault symptoms persist?
Yes: See "Symptoms" below.
No: See "Final Check" below.
Symptoms:
- Select the appropriate fault symptoms and follow the relevant instructions. Checking Component/System by Symptom
- Test drive the car.
- Do the fault symptoms persist?
Yes: Skip to "Breakout Box and Parameters" below.
No: Skip to "Final Check" below.
Breakout Box and Parameters:
- Connect the test box and take readings at all terminals in accordance Signal Description chart(s). Signal Table/Description
- Then continue with Final Check
Final Check:
- Check that no diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) have been stored while fault-tracing other systems.
- Erase diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) before returning the car to the customer.
