Combined Instrument Panel Gauges

Condition:

VDO Instrument Cluster W/Turbo:





- No combined instrument panel gauges working.

Possible Source:
- Fuse blown.
- Open-circuit in 15-supply
- Open-circuit in signal ground terminal.
- Internal fault in micro-processor.
- Loose connections in connectors A or B.

Start fault-tracing with step 1, "Checking Combined Instrument Panel Gauges" below.

1) Checking Combined Instrument Panel Gauges:

Volvo Scan Tool (ST):





- Checking Communication with the Combined Instrument Panel:
- Connect Volvo Scan Tool (ST) to data link connector (DLC).

Ignition On:





- Ignition on
- Try to establish communication with the combined instrument panel.
- Has communication been established with the combined instrument panel?

Yes: Go to step 2.
No: Fault-trace according "Checking Control Module Communication." Control Module Communication

2) Data Read-Out:
- Read off all data from the combined instrument panel control module and note values. For information see Reading off and programming Combined Instrument Panel, Diagnostic Functions
- Then continue with step 3, below.

3) Replacing Component:





- Try a new printed circuit board, Service and Repair Then continue with step 4.

4) Programming Combined Instrument Panel:
- Program the control module with the values previously read off the combined instrument panel control module. For information on reading off and programming Combined Instrument Panel, Diagnostic Functions
- Then continue with step 5, below.

5) Verification:

Note: After carrying out the repair check that the fault has been remedied.

- Ignition off.

Connect Connector:





- Reconnect connectors, reinstall components.





- Connect combined instrument panel.

Engine Running:





- Start engine

VDO Instrument Cluster W/Turbo:





- Check that the tachometer is working.
- Is the tachometer working?

Yes: Fault is corrected.
No: The verification result shows that the fault persists. Do you want to quit fault-tracing?
Yes: Fault not corrected!
No: Start over at step number 1 above.
