Removal
- Remove dashboard. Complete Dash Board Removal
Applies to cars with air conditioning (A/C)
- Drain refrigerant from system (see "Drainage of A/C System"). Draining Air Conditioning (A/C) System
- To adapt a new climate control system to an old control module or adapt a new EEC cable for an old ECC control module and climate control system, the wiring at connector 24/11 must be modified
- To replace with a new version, (see Wiring for new climate control unit/ECC control module, replacement :Complete climate unit only) and (Wiring for new climate control unit/ECC control module, replacement :Control module and complete climate unit).
- Open the quick-release connectors on the pipes for the evaporator. Use quick-release connector puller 5385, 5472. 999 5385 999 5472
- Plug the pipes
- Remove the cover plate and the rubber seal on the lead-in in the firewall (1 nut).
For all cars:
- Install hose clips on the hoses for the heat exchanger
- Release the quick-release connectors on the hoses by compressing the catch while pulling the hose outwards
- Plug the pipes for the heat exchanger
- Remove the cover plate and the rubber seal for the lead-in in the firewall (2 screws).
Disconnect the following wiring/connectors:
- The connector for the fan motor
- The connector for the motor for the recirculation shutter
- The connector for the blower fan resistor
- Pull out the cable duct on the fan motor
- The connectors on the brackets.
- Remove the fan relay and the relay base from the relay base
- Remove the relay base.
- Disconnect the connector for the control lighting
Note! The control box (2 screws) must be opened to disconnect the connector. Assemble the control box.
Remove the tunnel console (D9):
- First remove the ashtray (2 screws) and the cigarette lighter compartment (2 screws)

- Remove the connection for the rear floor ducts (1 screw)
- Remove the amplifier bracket
- First remove the amplifier if applicable
- Remove the drain hose.
- Disconnect the cable for the right-hand temperature shutter (MCC)
- Cars with cruise control: Disconnect the vacuum regulator for the cruise control from the climate control system (1 screw)
- Remove the 4 screws for the climate control system
- Lift out the climate control system.
