Turbo
TURBOClearance check and installation of service kit (P/N 9184714-5)
A. Remove:
- bolt and bracket attaching the engine block heater to the engine block. (see illustration 8702233A)
B. Check:
- remove the engine block heater.
The following steps are needed to check the clearance between the engine block heater and the engine block at the bolt joint. (see illustration 8702409A)
- lubricate/spray the surface around the hole on the engine block.
- to check the clearance between the engine block heater and engine block, place a small piece of putty (i.e., P/N 1161401-3) onto the engine block heater inside surface around the bolt hole. Remove excess putty on bolt.
- reinstall the engine block heater to the engine block and tighten bolt to 16 Nm (12 ft. lbs.).
- remove the block heater and carefully remove putty and measure its thickness. Maximum putty thickness is 7.0 mm (8/32 in.). (see illustration 8702409A)
If the thickness of the putty is correct, reinstall the engine block heater and the service kit (P/N 9184714-5). See STEP C for service kit installation instruction.
If the putty thickness exceeds 7.0 mm (8/32 in.), replace the engine block heater with a new engine block heater (P/N 9187305-9) and service kit (P/N 9184714-5). See STEP C for service kit installation instruction.
C. Installation of service kit:
NOTE:
USE ONLY SAFETY WIRE AND BOLTS FROM THE KIT!
Before positioning block heater clean all surfaces of putty.
- Install: Replace bolts with new safety wired bolts from service kit and use existing bracket, spacer sleeves and nut. (See illustration 87O2234A)
- tighten to 16 Nm (12 ft. lbs.)
- install: locking wire and twist as shown. (see illustration 87O2234A)
The nine (9) clips in service kit (P/N 9184714-5) are not applicable for this repair and should be discarded.
The spacer sleeves in service kit (P/N 9184714-5) are for non-turbo engines ONLY.
