Parts Bulletin

Volvo Cars of North America, Inc. and Volvo Canada Ltd. have announced a safety recall on the engine block heater which may have been installed as an accessory on certain 1993 through 1996 850 Series vehicles.





The part numbers will be used as listed.

There will be an initial allocation for Service Kit P/N 9184714-5 and plastic sealer P/N 1161401-3, proportionate to Retailer block heater purchases, starting on or about the week of 10/21/96. This allocation will only be shipped to Retailers who purchased block heaters. After this one time allocation additional quantities of service kit 9184714-5 can be order through normal ordering procedures. The replacement engine block heaters can only be ordered by faxing an order form to Volvo Retailer Support (201) 784-4551 (U.S.A.) and (416) 493-8754 (Canada) as needed. It is estimated that less than 4% of all vehicles inspected will require replacement of the block heater, therefore limited quantities are available and cannot be stocked. Please make every effort to minimize customer inconvenience if block heater replacement is required.

Please coordinate parts ordering with the service department's appointments relative to this recall.

RETURNS

U.S.

All stock of 850 engine block heaters 3542905-9, 9124945-8, 9134643-7 and 9134596-7 must be returned to your servicing Distribution Center. Enter a "BR" Request for Credit on DCS using "Return" as your invoice number. Reference this bulletin in "Remarks" and transmit to Parts Retailer Support. You will receive authorization to return these parts within three (3) days of transmittal. Non-DCS dealers please use a Request for Credit Form.

Canada

Simply return all stock of 850 engine block heaters 3542905-9, 9124945-8, 9134643-7 and 9134596-7 to your servicing Distribution Center with a Request for Credit Form.
