NON-TURBO

Clearance check and installation of service kit (P/N 9184714-5)

NOTE!

A few Non-Turbo vehicles are equipped with a Turbo engine block, see Alternative B (illustration 8702229A)

A. Remove:

- bolt attaching the engine block heater to engine block.

B. Check:

- clearance between the engine block heater and the engine block at the bolt joint (see illustration 8702249A)

It should not be possible to insert a 7.0 mm (8/32 in.) feeler gauge between the two when the heater is pressed against the engine block.

If the clearance is correct, reinstall the block heater with the service kit (P/N 9184714-5). See STEP C for service kit installation instruction.

If the clearance exceeds 7.0 mm (8/32 in.), replace the engine block heater with a new engine block heater.

Alternative A

- On engine block alternative A (see illustration 8702231A), replace the engine block heater with new engine block heater (P/N 9187304-2) and service kit (P/N 9184714-5). See Step C for service kit installation instruction.

Alternative B

- On engine block alternative B (see illustration 8702229A), replace the engine block heater with a new engine block heater (P/N 9187305-9) and service kit (P/N 9184714-5). See STEP C for service kit installation instruction.

C. Installation of service kit:

NOTE:
USE ONLY SAFETY WIRE AND BOLTS FROM THE KIT!

After block heater is in position:

- Install: two spacer sleeves on longer bolt from the service kit. (see illustration 8702231A)

- tighten to 16 Nm (12 ft. lbs.)

- Install: locking wire and twist as shown. (see illustration 8702230A)

9 clips included in service kit (9184714-5) are NOT needed for this repair and should be discarded.
