Removal

NOTE: Unlike the evaporator, the heat exchanger (Heater Core) can be replaced without removing the climate control unit.

1. Attach hose pliers to heat exchanger hoses in engine compartment (F1).
2. Remove left- and right-hand sound wall (F2).
3. Remove carpet support plates (F3). Bend back carpet on both sides first.
4. Remove amplifier bracket (F4). Remove amplifier first if fitted.

5. Remove drain hose (F5).
6. Undo 4 (four) heat exchanger screws (F6). The Image above shows the two left-hand screws: the right-hand pair are in the same position on the other side.
7. Undo heat exchanger pipe flange screws (F7).

NOTE: Put a thick layer of absorbent paper under the flange first to soak up any escaping coolant.

8. Remove heater and cover (F8):
- First, disconnect pipes from heater.
- Then disconnect heater and cover by pulling them backwards towards the gear lever, twisting them slightly upwards at the same time. Once the heater can move freely relative to the upper section of the climate control unit, remove it to one side.

9. Remove heater from cover.
- Remove screws (4) from lower section of heat exchanger.
