System Completely Inoperable




C1 Checking Fuses

Switch ignition off.
Remove fuses 3 and 6.
Check that fuses 3 and 6 in the fusebox are intact.





If fuses are defective:
Temporary overload or fault in central locking system.
Replace fuse and see if central locking system works as per step C4.

If fuses are intact:
Check supply (30) to fuse 6 in the fusebox as per step C2.


C2 Checking Supply (30) To Fuse 6 In The Fusebox

Switch ignition off.
Connect a voltmeter between fuse holder position 11/6:1 to fuse 6 and ground. Voltmeter should read battery voltage.





If reading is correct:
Check supply (15) to fuse 3 in the fusebox as per step C3.

If reading is incorrect:
Open-circuit or short-circuit in supply lead between fusebox position 11/6:1 and battery 1/1.
Correct fault or install new supply lead from fusebox to battery.
Replace fuses.


C3 Checking Supply (15) To Fuse 3 In The Fusebox

Switch ignition off.
Connect a voltmeter between fuseholder position 11/3:1 to fuse 3 and ground.
Voltmeter should read approximately 0 Volts.





Switch ignition on.
Connect a voltmeter between fuseholder position 11/3:1 to fuse 3 and ground. Voltmeter should read battery voltage.





If reading is correct:
Replace fuse and see if central locking system works as per step C4.

If reading is incorrect:
Open-circuit or short-circuit in supply cable between fusebox position 11/3:1 and ignition switch 3/1.
Correct fault or install new supply lead from ignition to fuseholder position 11/3:1. Replace fuses.


C4 Checking Central Locking System Works

Switch ignition off.





Replace fuses.
Confirm that the central locking system operates using the button in the drivers door.





If the central locking system operates:
Check front door control switch ground lead as per step C17.

If the central locking system does not operate:
Check that all central locking modules operate mechanically as per step. C5.


C5 Checking That All Central Locking Modules Operate Mechanically

Switch ignition off.





See if you can unlock and lock the front doors and trunk/tailgate using the key and unlock the rear doors by pulling up the inside lock buttons and/or opening them using the inside door handles.





Try another door handle (e.g. if child safety lock is on). If all central locking modules work mechanically: Check ground lead to central locking relay as per step C6.

If any central locking module will not work mechanically:
There is a mechanical fault in one of the central locking modules.
Deal with fault or install new central locking module.


C6 Checking Ground Lead To Central Locking Relay And Driver's Door Relay

Switch ignition off.





Remove central locking relay 205/206 and drive's door relay 202.
Connect an ohmmeter between position 31 on relay plinth 206 and ground and 202 and ground. Ohmmeter should read approximately 0 ohm in both cases.










If reading is correct:
Check supply lead (30) to central locking relay as per step 07.

If reading is incorrect:
Open-circuit or short-circuit in ground lead between position 31 on relay plinth and ground point electrical panel output ground 31/50. Correct fault or install new ground lead. Replace central locking relay 205/206 and driver's door relay 202.




C7 Checking Supply (30) To Central Locking Relay And Driver's Door Relay

Switch ignition off.
Connect a voltmeter between positions 30 and 31 on relay plinth 206 and 202. Voltmeter should read battery voltage both times.










If reading is correct:
Check ignition supply (15) to central locking relay as per step C8.

If reading is incorrect:
Open-circuit or short-circuit to ground in power supply lead between position 30 on relay plinth and fuseholder position 11/6:2 for fuse 6.
Correct fault or install new supply lead to the relay concerned.
Replace central locking relay 205/206 and driver's door relay 202.




C8 Checking Ignition Supply (15) To Central Locking Relay

Switch ignition off.





Connect a voltmeter between positions 15 and 31 on relay plinth 205/206.
Voltmeter should read approximately 0 Volts.





Switch ignition on.
Connect a voltmeter between positions 15 and 31 on relay plinth 205/206.
Voltmeter should read battery voltage.





If reading is correct:
Check lead 87 to central locking motors as per step C9.

If reading is incorrect:
Open-circuit or short-circuit to 12 Volt in ignition supply lead between position 15 on relay plinth and fuseholder position 11/3:2 for fuse 3. Correct fault or install new ignition supply lead to central locking relay. Replace central locking relay 205/206.



C9 Checking M- Lead To Central Locking Motors

Switch ignition off.





Connect an ohmmeter between positions M- and 31 on relay plinth 206. Ohmmeter should read infinite resistance.





Connect a voltmeter between positions M- and 31 on relay plinth 206. Voltmeter should read approximately 0 Volts.






If reading is correct:
Check lead M+ to central locking motors as per step C10.

If reading is incorrect:
The short-circuit is in the lead between position M- on the relay plinth and the central locking motors.
Correct fault or install new lead between position M- on relay plinth and central locking motors. Replace central locking relay 2/7.



C10 Checking Lead 88 To Central Locking Motors

Switch ignition off.
Remove driver's door relay 202 and central locking relay 205/206.





Connect an ohmmeter between position M+ and position 31 on relay plinth 206 and then between position MD+ and position 31 on relay plinth 202. Ohmmeter should read infinite resistance in both cases.





Connect a voltmeter between position M+ and position 31 on relay plinth 206 and then between position MD+ and position 31 on relay plinth 202. Voltmeter should read approximately 0 Volts in both cases.





If reading is correct:
Checking central locking motors work as per step C11.

If reading is incorrect:
Short-circuit in lead between relay plinth 202 position MD+ and driver's door central locking motor or short-circuit in lead between central locking relay plinth 206 position M+ and other central locking motors. Correct fault or replace cable. Replace central locking relay 205/206 and drive's door relay 202.



C11 Checking Central Locking Motors Work

Switch ignition off.
Unlock and close all doors.


Checking unlocking works:
Connect ground to position M- by bridging from position 31 on relay plinth 205/206.





Now apply battery voltage to position M+ for approximately two seconds by bridging from position 30 on relay plinth. Central locking modules other than driver's door should unlock.





Checking locking works:
Connect ground to position M+ by bridging from position 31 on relay plinth 205/206. Now apply battery voltage to position M- for approximately two seconds by bridging from position 30 on relay plinth.





Central locking modules should lock.





If central locking modules activate:
Check control switch signal leads as per step C15.

If central locking motors do not activate:
Check central locking motor windings as per step C12.




C12 Checking Central Locking Motor Windings

Switch ignition off.





Unlock trunk/tailgate, fuel filler cap and all doors.





onnect an ohmmeter between position M- and position M+ on relay plinth 206. Ohmmeter should read 1 - 15 ohms.





If ohmmeter reads 1 - 15 ohms:
This reading may seem to indicate that the central locking motor windings are intact, but there may be a fault in one of the central locking motors.
Check central locking motor windings as per C14.

If ohmmeter reads 0 ohm:
There is a short-circuit in the leads between the central locking motors and positions M- and M+ on the relay plinth.
Correct fault or install new leads between positions M- and M+ on the relay plinth and the central locking motors.
Replace central locking relay 2/7 and driver's door relay 2/47-2.

If ohmmeter reads infinite resistance:
Check central locking relay and driver's door relay as per step C13.




C13 Checking Central Locking Relay And Driver's Door Relay

Switch ignition off.
Replace central locking relay 205/206 and drive's door relay 202.
Remove panels in doors, luggage compartment or trunk as necessary.
Undo central locking module connector.





Connect a voltmeter at:
Front doors between positions 8 and 12 of the cable harness 14-pin connector.

Rear doors between positions 3 and 4 of the cable harness 8-pin connector.
Trunk/tailgate between positions 6 and 7 of the cable harness 8-pin connector.
Fuel filler cap between positions 1 and 2 of the cable harness 2-pin connector.
Voltmeter should read approximately 0 Volts in each case.





If reading is correct:
Check central locking motor windings as per step C14.

If any reading is incorrect:
There is a fault in the central locking relay and/or driver's door relay.
Carry out fault-tracing/check interior lighting ground lead as per step C21.



C14 Checking Central Locking Motor Winding

Switch ignition off.
Remove central locking relay 205/206.
Remove panels in doors luggage compartment or trunk as necessary.
Undo central locking module connector.





Connect an ohmmeter at:
Front doors between positions 8 and 12 of the central locking module 14-pin connector.
Rear doors between positions 3 and 4 of the central locking module 8-pin connector.

Trunk/tailgate between positions 6 and 7 of the central locking module 8-pin connector.
Fuel filler cap between positions 1 and 2 of the central locking module 2-pin connector.
Ohmmeter should read 1 - 15 ohms in each case.





If reading is correct:
Check control switch signal leads as per step C15.

If any reading is incorrect:
Open-circuit or short-circuit in central locking module cable harness or central locking motor windings in central locking module where meter showed incorrect reading. Correct fault or install new central locking motor. Replace central locking relay 205/206.



C15 Checking Control Switch Signal Leads

Switch ignition off.
Lock driver's door with key and keep key turned as far as it will go (45°)





Connect an ohmmeter between positions 31 on relay plinth 206 and LK on relay plinth 206. Ohmmeter should read approximately 0 ohm.

Connect an ohmmeter between positions 31 on relay plinth 206 and position ULK on relay plinth 205. Ohmmeter should read infinite resistance.





Lock driver's door with key and keep key turned as far as it will go (45°)





Connect an ohmmeter between position 31 and position LK on relay plinth. Ohmmeter should read infinite resistance.

Connect an ohmmeter between positions 31 on relay plinth 206 and position ULK on relay plinth 205. Ohmmeter should read approximately 0 ohm.





If reading is correct:
Check interior lighting ground lead as per step C21.

If reading is incorrect:
Check front door control switch as per step C16.




C16 Checking Front Door Control Switch

Switch ignition off.
Remove door panels from both front doors.
Undo central locking module 14-pin connector.

Lock driver's door with key and keep key turned as far as it will go (45°) Connect an ohmmeter between positions 7 and 14 of the central locking module 14-pin connector. Ohmmeter should read infinite resistance.

Connect an ohmmeter between positions 13 and 14 of the central locking module 14-pin connector. Ohmmeter should read approximately 0 ohm.





Unlock driver's door with key and keep key turned as far as it will go (450) Connect an ohmmeter between positions 7 and 14 of the central locking module 14-pin connector. Ohmmeter should read approximately 0 ohm.

Connect an ohmmeter between positions 13 and 14 of the central locking module 14-pin connector. Ohmmeter should read infinite resistance.


Repeat readings on passenger doer.





If reading is correct:
Check front door control switch ground lead as per step C17.

If reading is incorrect:
There is a fault in the central locking module control switch or cable harness.
Correct fault or install complete new central locking module.
Replace central locking relay 205/206.



C17 Checking Front Door Control Switch Ground Lead

Switch ignition off.
Remove door panels from both front doors.
Undo central locking module 14-pin connector.
Connect an ohmmeter between position 14 on the cable harness 14-pin connector and ground.
Ohmmeter should read approximately 0 ohm.
Repeat readings on passenger door.






If reading is correct:
Check signal leads, locking as per step C18.

If reading is incorrect:
There is an open-circuit or short-circuit in the ground lead between position 14 on the cable harness 14-pin connector and connection to ground point A-post driver's side 31/7, passenger side 31/15. Correct fault or install new control switch ground lead. Replace central locking relay 2/7.




C18 Checking Signal Locking Leads

Switch ignition off.
Lock driver's door with key and keep key turned as far as it will go (45°)





Connect an ohmmeter between position 31 and position LK on relay plinth G.
Ohmmeter should read approximately 0 ohm.






Unlock driver's door with key and keep key turned as far as it will go (45°)






Connect an ohmmeter between position 31 and position LK on relay plinth.
Ohmmeter should read infinite resistance.






If reading is correct:
There is an open-circuit or short-circuit in the signal lead (unlocking) between the front door central locking module and the central locking relay. Correct fault or install new signal lead. Replace central locking relay 2/7.

If reading is incorrect:
Open-circuit or short-circuit in signal lead between front door central locking module and central locking relay. Correct fault or install new signal lead. Replace central locking relay 2/7.



C19 Checking Signal Lead To Driver's Door Relay

Switch ignition off
Remove central locking relay 205/206 and driver's door relay 202.





Connect a voltmeter between position RD and position 31 on relay plinth 202. Voltmeter should read 0 Volts.





Connect an ohmmeter between position RD and position 31 on relay plinth 202. Ohmmeter should read infinite resistance.





Connect an ohmmeter between position RD on relay plinth 202 and position RD on relay plinth 205. Ohmmeter should read approximately 0 ohm.





If reading is correct:
Check that driver's door relay is working as per step C20.

If reading is incorrect:
Open-circuit or short-circuit in signal lead between position RD on relay plinth 202 and position RD on relay plinth 205.



C20 Checking Driver's Door Relay

Switch ignition off.





Connect driver's door relay 202.
Remove central locking relay 205/206.





Lock driver's door.





Ground position M- on relay plinth 206 by bridging from position 31.





Driver's door central locking module should go to unlocked position.





If driver's door central locking module works:
Check interior lighting ground lead as per step C21.

If driver's door central locking module does not work:
Replace driver's door relay 2/47-2.




C21 Checking Interior Lighting Ground Lead

Switch ignition on.





Set passenger compartment ceiling light switch to position 0.





Remove central locking relay 205/206.





Connect a voltmeter between positions LA and 31 on relay plinth. Voltmeter should read approximately 0 Volts.






If reading is correct:
Install new central locking relay.

If reading is incorrect:
There is a short-circuit to 12 Volt in the interior lighting signal lead between position LA on relay plinth and passenger compartment ceiling light 10/22:5.

Correct defect or install new passenger compartment ceiling light signal lead with the central locking relay in place. Replace central locking relay if central locking still does not work.
