Vehicles With Passenger Air Bag
WARNING: The battery should not be connected when SRS ignition cable igniter connector is removed or installed.- Make a note of radio code if anti-theft coded radio is installed.
- Turn ignition off.
- Disconnect the battery negative lead.
Remove glove compartment:
- Fold down glove compartment lid.
- Remove arms (x 2) from the glove compartment lid. Insert a small screwdriver between arm and lid, and prize out arm.
- Remove glove compartment insert (6 x Torx 25).
- Remove SRS ignition cable igniter connector from the underside of the passenger module.
WARNING: Under no circumstances use an ohmmeter or other live measuring instrument to take readings on a disconnected non-deployed airbag module. This could deploy the airbag!
- Remove screws (4 x Torx 10 mm (4 x 0.4 in)) from passenger module mounting. The screws are located on top of the glove compartment.
- Remove blind cover plugs, screws (2 x Torx 25) and right and left side defroster vents. See (1) in the image which shows the left-hand side.
Remove:
- Driver's side dash board vent side defroster
- The two center dash board vents.
NOTE: When removing dash board vents. Twist vents downwards and pull out, or carefully prize with a screwdriver at the side and pull out.
Remove:
- Left and right loudspeaker grilles.
- Plastic plugs (2) from left and right loudspeakers. Press the center of the plastic plug to loosen it before removing.
- Left and right loudspeakers.
- Connectors from left and right loudspeakers.
- Right loudspeaker screws (Torx 25). See (2) in image.
Removing cover:
Remove mounting screws (9 x Torx 25) from the as cover as follows:
Remove:
- Screws (x 2) at each A-pillar
- Screws (x 2) above combined instrument panel.
- Screw (x 3) above the left and center dash board vents.
- Screws (x 2) above the glove compartment.
Pull cover (with passenger module) back to release it from its guide by the center dash board vents. Carefully lift away the cover (with passenger module).
CAUTION: If a non-deployed passenger module is removed temporarily, it should be placed with the metal side (rear) downwards in a protected place.
Installing Cover:
Install cover (with passenger module). Install mounting screws (9 x Torx 25) to the cover as follows.
Install:
- Screws (x 2) at each A-pillar
- Screws (x 2) above combined instrument panel.
- Screw (x 3) above the left and center dash board vents.
- Screws (2) above the glove compartment.
Install:
- Left and right loudspeaker connectors.
- Left and right loudspeakers.
- Plastic plugs (2) to left and right loudspeakers.
- Right loudspeaker screws (Torx 25). See (2) in figure.
- Left and right loudspeaker grilles.
Install:
- The two center dash board vents.
- Driver's side dash board vent side defroster.
- Right and left side defroster vents, screws (2 x Torx 25) and blind cover plugs.
Install:
- Install passenger module mounting screws (4 x 10 mm (4 x 0.4 in)). The screws are located on top of the glove compartment. Passenger module tightening torque = 7 Nm (5.2 ft.lb).
- Connect SRS ignition cable igniter connector to the underside of the passenger module. Ensure battery is still disconnected first.
Install:
- Glove compartment insert (6 x Torx 25).
- Arms (x 2) to glove compartment lid.
WARNING: Ensure that nobody is in the car when the battery is being connected.
When all components have been reinstalled:
- Switch ignition to position II.
- Connect battery negative lead.
