REFERENCE: TP 8201201, SECTION 8 (82-86, 88) INTERIOR, EXTERIOR; 850 1993-
Damage to paintwork by tailgate handle 855
On 855 models where paintwork damage at the lower corner of the tailgate handle has been touched up, a piece of protective tape should be applied to stop the damage from recurring.
The protective tape should be cut using the enclosed template and should extend 1-2.5 mm (3/64-3/32") outside the tailgate handle.
Protective tape type P/N 1372838-9 (stone-chip protection rear wing) is suitable.
Example of paintwork damage
The illustration shows an example of paintwork damage that can be prevented by using protective tape.
Installing protective tape.
Note:
The protective tape must be installed with tailgate handle removed.
Cut out protective tape
Cut out protective tape using the template in this bulletin.
Install protective tape.
Remove backing and install tape on tailgate. The protective tape should extend 1-2.5 mm (3/64"-3/32") outside the tailgate handle.
If the tape causes too much play between the handle/crank and tailgate, remove the existing protective tape and cut out a new piece of tape, but this time use only the lower section of the template.
