Motor 2 controls the backrest angle. If the control module receives a signal from the potentiometer that motor 2 is turning in the wrong direction diagnostic trouble code (DTC) PSL/PSR-144 is set.
Possible source
- Wiring to motor 2 incorrectly connected.
- Wiring to potentiometer for motor 2 incorrectly connected.
- Defective control module.
Fault symptom(s)
- Backrest moves backward when control button pressed to move backrest forward or vice versa.
- Backrest moves in wrong direction when memory button pressed.
- Fault-tracing begins at NB. Moves in the wrong direction.

NB1: Checking movement direction
Operate backrest changing the angle forward/backward using the control button.
Does the backrest move in the correct direction?
Yes:
- NB3
No:
- NB2
NB2: Switching connections on motor 2
- Ignition OFF.
- Remove seat from car.
- Disconnect gray 14-pin connector B.
Switch over the leads:
- Press out pins in pos. 1 (green lead) and 2 (black lead) from connector B. Use terminal removal tool 951 2631.
- Switch the leads over and press the pins into the connector.
Then continue with:
- NB5
NB3: Checking wiring in potentiometer 2
- Ignition OFF.
- Remove seat from car.
- Disconnect gray 14-pin connector B.
Check that the blue/white lead is connected to B:5 and the yellow/white lead is connected to B:4.
If the leads are in the wrong positions:
- Press out pins B:5 and B:4. Use terminal removal tool 951 2631.
- Switch the leads over and press the pins into the connector.
- Reinstall connector
Were the connections OK?
Yes:
- NB4
No:
- NB5
NB4: Replace component
The motor and potentiometer are correctly connected to the control module.
Try a new control module. Control module, Service and Repair
Then continue with:
- NB5
NB5: Verification
- Ignition OFF.
- Connect up seat in car.
Select scrolling values and read off the value from the potentiometer for motor 2.
Operate backrest forward/backward using the control button.
The value should increase when the backrest moves forwards and decrease when it moves backwards.
If reading is OK:
- Fault corrected
If reading is incorrect:
- NB6
NB6: Fault-tracing information
The verification result shows that the fault persists.
