CI-114 Fuel Level Sensor
Condition:- No change from fuel level sensor for 150 km (93 miles) signal does not change.
Possible Source:
- Fuel level sensor sticking.
Fault Symptom(s):
- The fuel level needle does not move.
Start fault-tracing with step 1, below.
1) Checking Other Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs):
NOTE: The Volvo All-wheel drive (AWD) has a different fuel tank with two fuel level sensor connected in series.
- Ignition on.
- Read off other diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) in the combined instrument panel.
Only C1-114, go to step 4, below.
CI-114 and CI-112, go to step 2, below.
CI-114 and CI-113, go to step 3, below.
2) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) CI-114 and CI-112 Stored:
- Fault-trace according to CI-112. CI-112 Fuel Level Sensor
- Then continue with step 4, below.
3) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) CI-114 and CI-113 Stored:
- Fault-trace according to CI-113. CI-113 Fuel Level Sensor
- Then continue with step 4, below.
4) Status Check:
Ignition On:
- Ignition on
- Read off diagnostic trouble code (DTC) counter and note value.
- Is counter value greater than 0?
Yes: Go to step 9, below.
No: Go to step 5, below.
5) Replacing Component:
- Try a new fuel level sensor. Service and Repair
- Then continue with step 6, below.
6) Verification:
Note: After carrying out the repair check that the fault has been remedied.
- Ignition off.
Connect Connector:
- Connect fuel level sensor connector.
Ignition On:
- Ignition on.
- Go into scrolling values and read off unattenuated fuel level.
- Tip fuel level sensor to different positions.
- Does the unattenuated fuel level value change?
Yes: Go to step 7, below.
No: Go to step 8, below.
7) Reinstalling Components:
- Ignition off.
- Install fuel level sensor. Service and Repair
Connect Connector:
- Reconnect connectors, reinstall components.
- The fault should be corrected now. Verify proper operation.
8) Fault-Tracing Information:
- The verification result shows that the fault persists. Do you want to quit fault-tracing?
Yes: The fault is not corrected!
No: Go back to step 4, above.
9) Faulty Signal, Intermittent Fault:
- Ignition off.
Disconnect Connector:
- Disconnect fuel level sensor. Service and Repair
- Tip it in another direction and check whether the float sticks.
- Replace a sticking fuel level sensor.
- Install fuel level sensor.
- Then continue with step 10, below.
10) Fault-Tracing Information:
- For intermittent faults fault-tracing is not followed by a verification because the fault is not present at this moment.
- Do you want to repeat fault-tracing?
Yes: Go to step 4, above.
No: Diagnostic operation done.
