Moves In Wrong Direction

Motor 1 controls the seat adjustment for length. If the control module receives a signal from the potentiometer that motor 1 is turning in the wrong direction diagnostic trouble code (DTC) PSL/PSR-143 is set.
Possible source
- Wiring to motor 1 incorrectly connected.
- Wiring to potentiometer for motor 1 incorrectly connected.
- Defective control module.
Fault symptom(s)
- Seat moves backward when button pressed to move seat forward or vice versa.
- Seat moves in wrong direction when memory button pressed.
- Fault-tracing begins at MB. Moves in the wrong direction.

MB1: Checking movement direction
Operate the seat forward/backward using the control button.
Does the seat move in the correct direction?
Yes:
- MB3
No:
- MB2
MB2: Switching connections on motor 1
- Ignition OFF.
- Remove seat from car.
- Disconnect black 14-pin connector C.
Switch over the leads:
- Press out pins in pos. 1 (blue lead) and 2 (violet lead) from connector C. Use terminal removal tool 951 2631.
- Switch the leads over and press the pins into the connector.
Then continue with:
- MB5
MB3: Checking Wiring in potentiometer 1
- Ignition OFF.
- Remove seat from car.
- Disconnect black 14-pin connector C.
Check that the brown lead is connected to C:12 and the red lead to C:13.
If the leads are in the wrong positions:
- Press out pins C:12 and C:13. Use terminal removal tool 951 2831.
- Switch the leads over and press the pins into the connector.
- Reinstall connector
Were the connections OK?
Yes:
- MB4
No:
- MB5
MB4: Replace component
The motor and potentiometer are correctly connected to the control module.
Try a new control module, Service and Repair
Then continue with:
- MB5
MB5: Verification
Hint: After carrying out the repair check that the fault has been remedied as follows:
- Ignition OFF.
- Connect up seat in car.
Select scrolling values and read off the value from the potentiometer for motor 1.
Operate the seat forwards and backwards using the seat control buttons.
The value should increase when the seat moves forwards and decrease when it moves backwards.
If reading is OK:
- Fault corrected
If reading is incorrect:
- MB6
MB6: Fault-tracing information
The verification result shows that the fault persists.
