DTC 2-1-4

2-1-4 ENGINE SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL, SPORADIC

Preconditions for DTC
^ If the ECM counts more than two teeth too few or too many on the connecting flange/flywheel for two consecutive crankshaft revolutions, DTC 2-1-4 is set.

Substitute value
^ None.

Fault sources
^ Loose contact in the wiring or splices.
^ The wire's insulation is damaged.
^ Contact resistance in the connections.
^ Damage to the connecting flange/flywheel.
^ Defective Engine Speed (RPM) Sensor.

Fault symptoms
^ Engine is very rough and jerky.

TESTING PROCEDURE





Checking the Leads And Connections
^ Check the RPM sensor's and ECM's connectors for loose connections as well as contact resistance and oxidation.
^ Check the leads between the control module and RPM sensor for signs of an intermittent break, intermittent short circuiting to ground and intermittent short circuiting to voltage supply.

If the leads and connections are OK:
- Check the connecting flange/flywheel through the sensor hole for damage and scratches.
If no damage is detected on the connecting flange/flywheel:
- Test with a new RPM sensor.
