Input Shaft Seal
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Puller (T10055)
• Assembly Tool (T10399)
• Thrust Piece (T10448)
• Sealing Grease for Seal (G 052 128 A1)
• Screw, approximately 4 mm in diameter
Removing
• Remove the transfer case. Refer to => [ Transfer Case ] Transfer Case.
- Make a hole in the center of the shaft seal using a drift.
- Screw in the 4 mm diameter screw.
• Do not damage the sealing surface on the input shaft when doing so.
• Be careful not to install the screw too deep otherwise the bearing underneath will get damaged.
- Remove the seal using the puller (T10055) and adapter (T10055/2).
Installing
- Lightly coat the outer circumference of the new shaft seal with oil.
- Fill the space between the sealing and dust lips half way with sealing grease for seal (G 052 128 A1).
- Install the new shaft seal using the thrust piece (T10448). Be careful not to tilt it.
- Install the transfer case. Refer to => [ Transfer Case ] Transfer Case.
- Check the transfer case fluid level, add if necessary. Refer to => [ Transfer Case Fluid Level, Checking ] Service and Repair.
