Case Adapter: Service and Repair






Transfer Case Carrier and Bracket

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Engine-/Gearbox Jack (V.A.G 1383 A)

Gearbox Support (T10337)

Removing

- Lift the vehicle.

- Remove the noise insulation from the bottom of the transmission.

- Remove the underbody trim under the transmission carrier and bracket, if equipped.

- Place the engine-/gearbox jack (V.A.G 1383 A) together with the gearbox support (T10337) under the transfer case.






- Remove the transfer case carrier bolts - 1 and 2 -.






- Lower the transfer case slightly until the transfer case hangs free.

- Remove the transfer case bracket to carrier bolts - arrows - and then remove the transfer case carrier.






- Remove the transfer case bracket bolts - 1 and 2 - and removed the bracket from the transfer case.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal.

Tightening Specifications

There are different brackets and transfer case carriers due to the different engine versions and different neck lengths on the transfer case. For the correct allocation, refer to the Parts Catalog.

There are also different attachment points for securing the bracket to the transfer case and to the transfer case carrier:





















- Install the underbody trim under the transfer case carrier and bracket, if equipped.
