Shift Cable: Adjustments
Selector Lever Cable, Checking and Adjusting
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Pry Lever-Rmv Outside Mirror (80-200)
• Socket and Key (T40031)
Checking
- Move the selector lever into the "P" position.
- Remove the noise insulation from the bottom of the transmission.
- Disconnect the selector lever cable - 1 - from the selector shaft ball stud using the pry lever-rmv outside mirror (80-200).
• Ignore - 2 and 3 -.
- Move the selector lever from "P" to "S".
• The selector mechanism and the selector lever cable must have freedom of movement during this, if necessary, replace the selector lever cable or service the selector mechanism.
- Move the selector lever into the "P" position.
- Position the selector shaft on the transmission to the "P" position. The detent lever must engage in the parking lock gear; both front wheels are blocked (cannot be jointly turned in one direction).
• It should be possible to push the selector lever cable onto the selector shaft ball stud. Adjust the selector lever cable if necessary.
- Carefully press the selector lever cable onto the selector shaft ball stud. Do not bend the selector shaft when doing this. Otherwise shifting can no longer be adjusted precisely.
Adjusting
• The selector lever cable is disconnected from the selector shaft ball stud.
- Unclip the shift cover from the trim.
- Move the selector lever into the "S" position.
- Disconnect the connector from the shift cover and pull the boot over the knob.
- Position the selector shaft on the transmission in the "S" position. Move the selector shaft all the way forward.
- Loosen the set screw - 1 - through the opening in the selector mechanism - arrow - using the socket and key (T40031) approximately 1 turn.
• The set screw is only accessible when the selector lever is in the "S" position.
• Only loosen the set screw - do not remove it.
- Carefully press the selector lever cable - 1 - onto the selector shaft ball stud. Do not bend the selector shaft when doing this. Otherwise shifting can no longer be adjusted precisely.
• Ignore - 2 and 3 -.
- Carefully move the selector lever slightly forward and backward without shifting to a different selector lever position.
- Tighten the set screw for the selector lever cable in this position using the socket and key (T40031) to 10 Nm.
• When tightening the set screw, the selector lever must not be moved forward or back or the adjustment will be incorrect.
Further installation is performed in the reverse sequence.
