Steering Column Trim

Removing

In vehicles with an electrically adjustable steering column, the following setting must be made prior to disconnecting the battery:

- Move the steering wheel to the end stop in the lowest setting position.

- Move the steering wheel to the end stop in the direction of the vehicle interior.

- In vehicles with a manually adjustable steering column, release the steering wheel adjustment locking lever and pull out the steering wheel and press it down.

- Remove driver airbag unit. Refer to => [ Driver Airbag ] Driver Airbag.

- Remove the steering wheel.

- Pry the steering column trim upper part - 1 - out of the mounts using the trim removal wedge (3409).






- Unclip the steering column trim upper part from the gap cover - 2 -.

Vehicles with manually adjustable steering columns:

- Release the steering wheel adjustment locking lever - 4 -.






- Remove the 2 screws - 1 - (1.5 Nm).

- Remove the bolt - 2 - (1.5 Nm).

- Detach the steering column trim lower part - 3 - from the steering column.

Vehicles with electrically adjustable steering columns:

- Remove the 2 screws - 1 - (1.5 Nm).






- Remove the bolt - 2 - (1.5 Nm).

- Detach the steering column trim lower part - 3 - from the steering column and disconnect the harness connector.

Installation

- To install, perform the steps used for removal in reverse order.
