6-Cylinder Gasoline Engine
Power Steering Pump Delivery Pressure, Checking
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Hose Clamps up to 25 mm (3094)
• Power Steering Tester (V.A.G 1402)
• Adapter (V.A.G 1402/2)
• Adapter Set (V.A.G 1402/6)
• Adapter Set (V.A.G 1402/17)
- Clamp off the suction hose using a (3094) - 1 -.
- Remove the screws - 2 - and remove the pressure line from the power steering pump.
- Mount the (V.A.G 1402) and the adapters as illustrated.
1. (V.A.G 1402)
2. Hose from (V.A.G 1402/6)
3. Bolt
4. Pressurized line
5. Adapter (V.A.G 1402/17-2) 1) with elbow (V.A.G 1402/17-3)
6. Power steering pump
7. Adapter (V.A.G 1402/17-1) with (V.A.G 1402/17-3)
1) Replace the (V.A.G 1402/17-1) seal if it is damaged or leaking. Allocation, refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).
• Position the (V.A.G 1402/17-3) on the (V.A.G 1402/17-1) so that the hose from the (V.A.G 1402/6) does not touch the pulley and/or ribbed belt.
• Tighten the union nuts on the (V.A.G 1402/17-3) and the (V.A.G 1402/6) hoses hand-tight with an open-end wrench.
- Remove (3094) from intake hose.
Make sure that lever on pressure gauge stands in position - 2 -.
- Start engine and fill hydraulic fluid in reservoir if necessary.
- Turn the steering wheel approximately 10 times from stop to stop.
- Check the delivery pressure.
Test Prerequisites
• Ribbed belt/ribbed belt tension OK.
• Sealing of system.
• Hoses/lines are not kinked or constricted.
- With engine at idle speed, close stopcock, not more than 5 seconds (position - 1 -) and read pressure.
Specification for Delivery Pressure: 120 to 128 bar
If specified value is not attained, replace power steering pump.
- Remove the pressure gauge and adapter.
- Bleed steering system. Refer to => [ Power Steering System, Bleeding ] Service and Repair.
- Check the hydraulic fluid level and fill if necessary.
- Check the steering system for leaks. Refer to => [ Steering System, Checking for Leaks ] Testing and Inspection.
