Generator
When disconnecting and connecting the battery, always perform the work procedure as described in the repair information. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Service and Repair. Not adhering to sequence will result in the deactivation of Main Battery Switch -E74- and subsequent damage to electrical system components.
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)
Removal
- Disconnect battery. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Service and Repair.
- Remove the ribbed belt.
- Remove the DF lead connector - 1 -.
- Pry off the cap - 2 -.
- Remove the nut - arrow - and disconnect the B+ wire from the generator.
- Remove the bolts - arrows - and the tensioning roller.
- Remove the bolt - arrows - and take the generator out of the vehicle.
Installation
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
- Remove the threaded bushings - A - from the generator housing approximately 4 mm in - direction of arrow -.
- Tighten the threaded connections to the tightening specification given in the overview. Refer to => [ Generator Overview ] Generator Overview.
- Connect battery. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Service and Repair.
- Start engine and check belt routing.
