Battery Jump Start Terminal






Battery Jump Start Terminal

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331/)

The battery jump start terminal is inside the engine compartment on the left side close to the left bulkhead.

Removal

Always follow the procedure in the Repair Information when disconnecting the battery. The battery cut-out will be deactivated and damage to the vehicle electrical equipment may occur if the connecting sequence is not followed exactly. Refer to => [ Warnings and Safety Precautions ] Service Precautions.

- Disconnect the battery. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Service and Repair.

- Unlock the latch - arrow - and open the cover - 1 -.






- Remove the nuts - 2 - (13 mm) and the wire - 3 -.






- Remove the positive pole - 1 - (17 mm) and the positive cable underneath it.

- Remove screw - 4 -.

- Remove battery jump start terminal housing from the bracket. Be careful of the wires still connected.

- Open both latches - arrows - and remove the cover - 1 -.






- Remove the nut - 1 - (4 Nm) and the wire - 2 - from the connector thread.






- Open both tabs - arrows - on the bottom and remove the B+ wire connecting piece - 1 - from the battery jump start terminal housing.






- Remove the battery jump start terminal housing.

Installation

Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following:

- Tighten the nuts - 2 - to 20 Nm.






- Tighten the positive pole - 1 - to 20 Nm.

- Tighten the bolt that attaches the battery jump start terminal housing to the bracket - 4 - to 9 Nm.

- Connect battery. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Service and Repair.
