Lateral Accelerometer: Service and Repair
ESP Sensor Unit (G419)
• The Transverse Acceleration Sensor (G200) , Rotation Rate Sensor (G202) and Longitudinal Acceleration Sensor (G251) are installed in a housing under center console.
• After replacing ESP Sensor Unit , transverse acceleration sensor and longitudinal acceleration sensor basic setting must take place.
Strong vibrations can destroy the rotation rate sensor, transverse acceleration sensor and longitudinal acceleration sensor.
Removing
• Component location: In direction of travel behind the selector mechanism, under the center console.
- Remove the selector trim.
- Fold up the armrest and remove the liner and cover.
Follow the safety precautions for pyrotechnic components such as airbags, belt tensioners and battery disconnect units when working on the airbag control module (J234).
- Disconnect battery.
- Remove the airbag control module.
- Disconnect connector - 1 - from ESP sensor unit.
- Move the wiring harness in front of the ESP sensor unit to the side.
- Remove the cap from the nut in the front.
- Remove the 2 nuts - arrows -.
- Remove ESP sensor unit.
Installing
- Install in reverse order of removal.
When installing ESP Sensor Unit make sure it is correctly seated in its mounting and is free of stress.
• Never force ESP sensor unit into position using nuts.
- Tighten the nuts to 8 Nm.
- Perform transverse acceleration sensor and longitudinal acceleration sensor basic setting.
