Side Curtain Airbag

Side Curtain Airbag

Removing and installing on the left side of the vehicle is described here. Removing and installing on the right side is identical.

Removing

The general safety precautions for working on airbag, belt tensioner and battery cut-out units (pyrotechnic components) must be observed.

Follow the special information regarding head curtain airbag modules. Refer to => [ Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units General Safety Precautions ] Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units General Safety Precautions.

- Remove headliner. Refer to => [ Headliner ] Headliner.

- Switch the ignition on.

- Disconnect the vehicle battery.

Electrostatic discharges can lead to unintended deployment of the airbag. Therefore, the technician must discharge static electricity from the body before disconnecting the ignition and ground wiring. This is done, for example, by briefly touching the vehicle body or the door striker pin.

- Release the connector lock and disconnect the connector from the head curtain airbag.

- Place straight O-ring pliers in both openings of the clip - 1 -. Press together the pliers and carefully remove the clip with the tensioning band from the mount.

- Remove the remaining clips from the mounts as described.

Start unclipping at the A-pillar and continue in the direction of the D-pillar.

If one of the 8 clips is damaged during removal, the head curtain airbag must be replaced!

- Unscrew the cap nuts - 3 - (9 Nm).

- Remove the head curtain airbag - 2 - from the vehicle through the rear lid.

Installation

- Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.

There is a test strip on the head curtain airbag. The test strip must be visible over the entire length after installation. Twisting is not permissible!

After clipping on the head curtain airbag, make sure the clips on both sides are securely engaged.
