Passenger Airbag Unit

Removing

The general safety precautions for working on airbag, belt tensioner and battery cut-out units (pyrotechnic components) must be observed. Observe the special information regarding driver and front passenger airbags. Refer to => [ Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units General Safety Precautions ] Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units General Safety Precautions.

- Remove the side instrument panel cover on the front passenger side. Refer to => [ Side Instrument Panel Covers ] Side Instrument Panel Covers.

- Remove the front passenger footwell cover. Refer to => [ Footwell Covers ] Footwell Covers.

- Remove the glove compartment. Refer to => [ Glove Compartment ] Glove Compartment.

- Switch the ignition on.

- Disconnect the vehicle battery.

Electrostatic discharges can lead to unintended deployment of the airbag. Therefore, the technician must discharge static electricity from the body before disconnecting the ignition and ground wiring. This is done, for example, by briefly touching the vehicle body or the door striker pin.

- Disconnect the harness connector from the front passenger airbag.

- Unscrew the 2 screws - 1 - and - 3 - (8 Nm).






- Remove the front passenger airbag - 2 - of the instrument panel.

Installation

- Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.

- Switch the ignition on.

Make sure that no persons are in the vehicle.

- Connect the vehicle battery.
