Ribbed Belt Drive Overview






1 Ribbed Belt

Mark the running direction before removing. Reversing the running direction on a used belt can destroy it.

Check for wear.

When installing, make sure it is seated correctly on the pulleys.

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Ribbed Belt ] Ribbed Belt.

2 Bolt

20 Nm + an additional 90° (1/4) turn.

Always replace.

Use a shim, refer to => [ Vibration Damper Threaded Connection ].

3 Shim

Always replace.

4 Dust Cap

5 Generator

Removing and installing.

To make it easier to position the generator, push the threaded bushings for the generator bolts back slightly.

6 Bolt

22 Nm

7 Dust Cap

8 Bolt

25 Nm

9 Idler Roller

Pay attention to the installed position.

10 Bolt

40 Nm

11 Generator Bracket

Tightening specification and sequence, refer to => [ Generator Bracket Bolt Tightening Specification and Sequence ].

12 Bolt

13 Idler Roller, Right

Pay attention to the installed position.

14 Dust Cap

Only on vehicles with an additional idler roller.

15 Bolt

17 Coolant Pump Pulley

Installed position: The word "front" indicates the direction of travel.

Counter hold using the spanner wrench (3212) to remove.

18 Bolt

9 Nm

19 Coolant Pump

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Coolant Pump ] Coolant Pump.

20 Idler Roller, Left

Only on vehicles with an additional idler roller.

Pay attention to the installed position.

21 Bolt

22 Nm

Only on vehicles with an additional idler roller.

22 Idler Roller Bracket

Only on vehicles with an additional idler roller.

23 Bolt

24 Power Steering Pump

Installed position: the word "front" indicates the direction of travel.

25 Power Steering Pump Pulley

Counter hold using the spanner wrench (3212) to remove.

27 Seal

Always replace.

28 Accessory Bracket

Check for washers.

31 A/C Compressor

Removing and installing.

Observe the alignment sleeves - item 32 - when installing.

Ensure they are seated correctly in the bracket.

34 Ribbed Belt Tensioner

Depending on the vehicle equipment level, the bolt in the cylinder block for the belt tensioner can be designed to use an M10 or M11 bolt. The bolt and the belt tensioner must absolutely be perfectly aligned.

Pivot using a T60 TORX(R) socket.

35 Bolt

Differing threads in the cylinder block.

Before assembling, check whether the threads are M10 or M11.

Use the proper size bolt. The engine could be damaged.

The bolt, belt tensioner and hole in the cylinder block must absolutely be perfectly aligned.

M10 bolt: 50 Nm + an additional 90° (1/4) turn.

M11 bolt: 60 Nm + an additional 90° (1/4) turn.

36 Vibration Damper

Mark the vibration damper installed position.

Generator Bracket Bolt Tightening Specification and Sequence





- Install the bolts in sequence - 1 through 4 -.

- Tighten the bolts in sequence - 1 through 4 - to 40 Nm.

Vibration Damper Threaded Connection





1 Bolt - 20 Nm + an additional 90° (1/4) turn. Always replace.
2 Shim, always replace
