Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Cooling System Tester (V.A.G 1274 B)
• Adapter (V.A.G 1274/8)
- Open the coolant expansion tank cap.
- Install the cooling system tester (V.A.G 1274 B) with the adapter (V.A.G 1274/8) onto the coolant expansion tank.
- Generate approximately 1 bar (14.6 psi) pressure using the cooling system tester hand pump.
- Check the coolant level inside the expansion tank.
There are no leaks in the coolant system if the coolant level goes down by only a maximum of 25 mm (0.98 inches). If the level goes down significantly or if the coolant evaporates from the tank, this means there are air bubbles in the coolant system.
The coolant level is OK
- Perform a road test until the engine operating temperature is reached.
- Check the coolant level.
The coolant level significantly goes down
- Drain the coolant system. Refer to => [ Cooling System, Emptying ] Cooling System, Emptying.
- Fill the coolant system. Refer to => [ Coolant, Filling ] Coolant, Filling.
- Check the coolant concentration.
