Brake Caliper
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1576)
• Brake Pedal Actuator (V.A.G 1869/2)
Removing
• Work procedure applies only for replacing or when performing subsequent service work on brake caliper.
- Remove wheels.
- Connect bleeder hose of bleeder bottle to bleeder valve of brake caliper and then open bleeder valve.
- Insert (V.A.G 1869/2).
- Close bleeder valve and remove bleeder bottle.
- Separate the connector for brake pad wear indicator.
- Unfasten the brake hose from the brake caliper.
- Remove brake caliper from wheel bearing housing.
- Remove brake pads. Refer to => [ Brake Pads ] Brake Pads.
Installing
- Install brake pads. Refer to => [ Brake Pads ] Brake Pads.
- Bolt brake caliper onto wheel bearing housing.
- Install the brake line on the brake caliper.
- Carefully install brake pad wear indicator wire contact sensor in new brake pads.
- Insert the brake pad wear indicator wire under the tabs on the retaining spring and into the clip.
- Join connector for brake wear indicator.
- Remove (V.A.G 1869/2).
- Bleed the brake system. Refer to => [ Brake System, Bleeding ] Brake System, Bleeding.
- Install wheels.
Tightening specification for wheel bolts
• Before moving vehicle, depress brake pedal several times firmly to properly seat brake pads in their normal operating position.
• Check brake fluid level.
