Starter

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)

Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1332)

Spring-type Clip Pliers (VAS 5024)

When disconnecting and connecting the battery, always perform the work procedure as described in the repair information. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Service and Repair.

Removing

- Disconnect the battery. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Service and Repair.

- Remove the air filter housing.

- Disconnect the connector - 1 -.






- Push the protective cap - 1 - in the - direction of the arrow - down off of the solenoid switch.






- Unscrew the mounting nut - 1 - and remove the positive wire - 2 - from the connection threads of the solenoid switch.






- Remove the upper nut - 1 - from the wire holder - 2 -.






- Remove the noise insulation.

- Remove the lower nut - 2 - on the wire holder - 1 - from the starter bolts.






- Unscrew the lower starter mounting bolt - arrow -.






- Remove the bolt at the top of the starter - arrow -.






- Remove the starter upward from the vehicle.

Installing

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. Note the following:

- Tighten all threaded connections to the tightening specifications given in the overview. Refer to => [ Starter ] Description and Operation.
