HID Bulbs

Follow all Use and Safety Precautions when replacing HID bulbs. Refer to => [ HID Headlamps, Usage and Safety Precautions ] Service Precautions.

• The Left High Intensity Gas Discharge (HID) Lamp (L13) and the Right High Intensity Gas Discharge (HID) Lamp (L14) can be checked using Vehicle Electrical System Control Module (J519) Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM).

• The illustrations show replacing the right HID headlamp bulb.

• Replacing the left HID headlamp bulb is identical.

Removing

- Remove the headlamp. Refer to => [ HID Headlamps With Cornering Lamp ] HID Headlamps With Cornering Lamp.

- Remove the cap - 1 -.






- Press the button - arrow - on the side and disconnect the connector from the HID lamp igniter unit (N195) - 1 -.






• There are pressures from 7 bar (cold) to 100 bar (hot) in the glass portion of the HID bulb. The hot glass of the bulb can reach temperatures of up to 700 degrees Celsius (1292° F).

• The glass can explode and there is a danger of burning.

• When removing and installing HID bulbs, always wear safety glasses and gloves.

- Turn the HID lamp igniter unit (N195) - 1 - all the way in - direction of arrow - and remove it from the reflector together with the HID bulb.

Installing

Make sure the cap fits correctly when installing it. It is destroyed by entry of water into headlamp.

• Do not touch the glass cone when installing a HID headlamp bulb. Fingers leave traces of grease on glass cone which can evaporate when gas-discharge lamp is switched on and glass cone will cloud.

• The glass cone on the HID headlamp bulb must be exposed to any mechanical strain. Glass cone is extremely sensitive and is also under high pressure.

• Avoid looking directly into the light beam, since the UV rays given off by the HID lamp are approximately 2.5 times stronger than those of a halogen bulb.

• If a headlamp with automatic vertical headlamp range control is removed, perform headlamp basic setting after installation.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

- Check headlamp for functions.

- Check the headlamp adjustment and adjust it if necessary.
