Camshaft Gear/Sprocket: Service and Repair






High Pressure Pump Sprocket

Removing

- Remove the high pressure pump. Refer to => [ High Pressure Pump ] High Pressure Pump.

- Remove the intake camshaft adjuster bolt - 1 - and adjuster. Refer to => [ Loosen the camshaft adjuster bolt on the intake side approximately 1 turn. Counter hold the camshaft using an open end wrench on the camshaft recess while doing this. ] Camshaft Adjuster.






- Remove the guide rail bolt - 3 -.

- Remove the timing chain from the sprocket.

- Pull out the drive shaft - 4 - and remove the sprocket - 6 -.

Installing

Coat the front side of the sprocket and the drive shaft with molypaste, lubricating paste (G 052 723 A2).

- Install the sprocket. The notch - arrow - must face upward.






- Coat the drive shaft with molypaste, lubricating paste (G 052 723 A2) and install. The drive shaft fits only in one position.

- Secure the high pressure pump sprocket position using the adjustment tool (T10363). The mark - A - on the high pressure pump sprocket must be at the top.






- Install the timing chain on the sprocket. Make sure the chain lies "taut" on the guide rail.

- Tighten the guide rail bolt - arrow -.






- Installing the camshaft adjuster. Refer to => [ Installing ] Camshaft Adjuster.

- Install the high pressure pump. Refer to => [ High Pressure Pump ] High Pressure Pump.
