Instrument Panel







Instrument Panel

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Trim removal wedge (3409)

Torque Screwdriver (V.A.G 1624)

Torque wrench (V.A.G 1331)

Removing

- Disconnect the battery.

- Remove the driver side airbag unit. Refer to => [ Airbag Unit with Igniter ] Airbag Unit with Igniter.

- Remove the steering wheel.

- Remove the instrument panel cover on each side. Refer to => [ Instrument Panel Side Cover ] Instrument Panel Side Cover.

- Remove the A-pillar center trim. Refer to => [ A-Pillar Gap Cover ] A-Pillar Gap Cover.

- Remove the upper A-pillar trim. Refer to => [ A-Pillar Trim ] A-Pillar Trim.

- Remove center console. Refer to => [ Center Console ] Center Console.

- Remove the trim from the instrument panel on the driver side.

- Remove the glove compartment. Refer to => [ Glove Compartment ] Glove Compartment.

- Remove the steering column trim. Refer to => [ Steering Column Upper Trim ] Steering Column Upper Trim.

- Remove the steering column electronics control module (J527).

- Remove the airbag spiral spring/return spring with slip ring (F138).

- Remove the steering angle sensor (G85).

- Remove the turn signal switch (E2).

- Remove the windshield wiper switch (E).

- Remove the instrument cluster.

- Remove the driver side instrument panel cover. Refer to => [ Driver Side Instrument Panel Cover ] Driver Side Instrument Panel Cover.

- Remove the trim from the center of the instrument panel. Refer to => [ Center Trim Panel ] Center Trim Panel.

- Remove the controls for the A/C System or the Climatronic.

- Remove the sunlight photo sensor (G107) or the sunlight photo sensor 2 (G134) , if equipped.

Vehicles with Radio System

- Remove the radio.

Vehicles with Navigation

- Remove the navigation display and controls.

Vehicles with Cell Phone Mount On Instrument Panel

- Disconnect the wiring harnesses from the cell phone mount.

All Vehicles

- Remove the bolt - 2 - (1.5 Nm) on both sides of the instrument panel - 1 -.

- Remove the bolt - 3 - (3.5 Nm) on both sides of the instrument panel - 1 -.

Coat the bolt - 3 - with locking fluid before installing.






- Disconnect the connector - 3 - from the front passenger airbag on both sides.

- Remove the bolt - 1 - from the instrument panel - 2 - (1.5 Nm).

- Remove the screw - 4 - from the instrument panel - 2 - (1.5 Nm).

- Remove the bolts - 5 - from the instrument panel - 2 - (1.5 Nm).






- Pull the instrument panel - 2 - slightly out of the mounts in the windshield crossmember - 1 -.

- Disconnect the connector for the speaker in the upper instrument panel.

- Disconnect the connector from the left vent temperature sensor (G150) and from the right vent temperature sensor (G151).

- Depending on the vehicle equipment level, disconnect the wiring harnesses and remove the instrument panel - 2 - with a second technician.






Installation

Check all the fasteners for damage and replace if necessary.

- Make sure the mounts - 1 - are secure inside the body - 2 - before installing the instrument panel.






- With a second technician, line up the instrument panel - 2 - as close as possible with the mounts on the crossmember - 3 -. Push the instrument panel - 2 - into the mounts - 1 -.






- Install in reverse order of removal.
