Driveshaft Assembly Overview, CV Joint VL 100






1 Outer CV joint

• Replace only as complete unit.

• Removing, refer to => [ Driveshaft with CV Joint VL100 ] Driveshaft with CV Joint VL100

• Installing: Drive onto shaft until impact using plastic hammer

• Checking, refer to => [ Outer CV Joint, Checking ] Outer CV Joint, Checking

2 Bolt

• 200 Nm + 180°

• Always replace if removed.

3 Right Drive Axle

4 Clamp

• Always replace if removed.

• Tensioning, refer to => [ Tensioning Clamp On Small Diameter ] Driveshaft with CV Joint VL100

5 Protective Boot

• Check for tears and scuffing

• Material: Hytrel (Polyelastomer)

6 Clamp

• Always replace if removed.

• Tensioning => [ Tightening Hose Clamp On Outer Joint ] Driveshaft with CV Joint VL100

7 Plate Spring

• Installed position => [ Installed Location Of Spring Washer And Thrust Washer On Outer Joint ] Driveshaft with CV Joint VL100

8 Thrust Ring

• Installed position => [ Installed Location Of Spring Washer And Thrust Washer On Outer Joint ] Driveshaft with CV Joint VL100

9 Locking Ring

• Always replace if removed.

• Insert in shaft groove

10 CV Boot

• Material: Hytrel (Polyelastomer)

• Without vent hole

• Check for tears and scuffing

• Drive off CV joint using drift

• Before mounting onto CV joint, coat sealing surface using (D 454 300 A2)

11 Clamp

• Always replace if removed.

• Tensioning => [ Tensioning Clamp On Small Diameter ] Driveshaft with CV Joint VL100

12 Left Drive Axle

13 Locking Plate

14 Internal Multi-Point Bolt

• first tighten diagonally to 10 Nm, then tighten diagonally again to the tightening specification

M8 bolt = 40 Nm

M10 bolt = 70 Nm

• After disassembly, always replace bolts

15 Locking Ring

• Remove and install using snap ring pliers (VW 161 A)

16 Gasket

• Bonding surface on CV joint must be free of grease and oil!

17 Inner CV joint

• Replace only as complete unit.

• Removing, refer to => [ Removing the Inner CV Joint ] Driveshaft with CV Joint VL100

• Installing, refer to => [ Pressing on Inner CV Joint ] Driveshaft with CV Joint VL100

• Checking, refer to => [ Inner CV Joint, Checking ] Inner CV Joint, Checking

18 Plate Spring

• Installed position => [ Installed Location Of Spring Washer On Inner Joint ] Driveshaft with CV Joint VL100
