Starter

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)

Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1332)

Spring-Type Clip Pliers (VAS 5024)

Removing

Always follow the instructions in the Repair Information exactly when disconnecting and connecting the battery. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Service and Repair.

- Disconnect the battery. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Service and Repair.

- Remove the engine cover together with the air filter and intake hoses.

- Release and disconnect the connector (terminal 50) - 1 -.






- Remove the cap - 1 - from the solenoid switch in - direction of arrow -.






- Remove the nut - 1 - and disconnect the positive cable - 2 - from the solenoid switch.






- Remove the nut - 1 - from the bolt at the top of the starter.






- Remove the wire holder - 2 -.

- Remove the bolt at the top of the starter - arrow -.






- Remove the noise insulation.

- Release and disconnect the harness connectors - arrows -.






- Remove the nut - 1 - from the bolt at the bottom of the starter.






- Remove the wire holder - 2 -.

- Remove the bolt at the bottom of the starter - arrow -.






- Remove the starter from the vehicle.

Installing

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. Note the following:

- Tighten the threaded connections to the tightening specification. Refer to => [ Starter Overview ] Service and Repair.
