Battery Interrupt Igniter

Battery Interrupt Igniter

Vehicles with batteries in the luggage compartment possess a battery cut-out to improve crash safety. In case of an accident, an explosion occurs in the airbag control module which causes the input wire to separate from the starter. The battery cut-out occurs pyrotechnically, using a very small explosion charge. When working on the battery or the battery cut-out, do not inadvertently remove the ignition. Always remove the negative terminal first.

Observe the safety precautions for working on the battery cut-out,

Observe the information for disposal of the battery cut-out unit,

Safety precautions for working on the pyrotechnic battery cut-out

Testing, removing, installing and repair work may only be performed by qualified personnel.

Disconnect the battery ground cable when working on the battery cut-out system.

Before handling (touching) the battery cut-out, the technician must be electrostatically discharged. This is achieved by touching a suitable metal part, for example, a water pipe, heater pipe or metal frame.

Battery cut-out units should be installed immediately upon removal from shipping package.

Battery cut-out unit is to be returned to shipping package when there is an interruption in work.

Do not leave the battery cut-out unit unattended and unsupervised.

Battery cut-out units that have fallen onto a hard surface or show signs of damage must not be installed in vehicle.

Storage and transport is subject to laws governing explosive materials.

Disposal of pyrotechnical battery cut-out units

Battery cut-out units that have not ignited must be returned in original packaging for proper recycling/disposal in accordance with national legislation! If questions arise, contact the distributor or importer!

Battery cut-out units that have ignited can be disposed of with industrial waste.

Turn off the ignition and all electrical equipment.

Remove the key.
