RNS 315 Radio Navigation System
RNS 315 Radio Navigation System
Radio/navigation"RNS 315"
The radio/navigation RNS 315 combines both a navigation system and a radio.
The RNS 315 consists of radio/RNS (RX1) and speakers. Additional information can be found in => [ Speakers ] Speakers.
The speaker system depends on the vehicle equipment level. It is controlled either by the amplifier inside the radio/RNS or by the amplifier (R12). If the speakers are connected to the amplifier, then the speaker outputs from the radio/RNS are used as the signal input by the amplifier.
• Characteristics of the radio/navigation system "RNS 315"
• Anti-theft coding.
• Anti-theft coding, identifying code.
• Anti-theft coding, deactivating.
• "RNS 315" components, adapting.
The antenna is either in the rear window or on the roof. The antenna system includes a "diversity function" integrated in the radio/RNS. Additional information can be found in => [ Antenna System Component Location Overview ] Antenna System Component Location Overview.
• Before troubleshooting or servicing, the technicians must be familiar with the function and operation of the radio/RNS.
• Additional information, refer to the Owner's Manual,.
• Use the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester for Servicing or Troubleshooting.
• Anti-theft code is equipped with protection code number.
• Deactivate the anti-theft coding if replacing the radio/RNS.
• The radio/RNS part number is on a label on the housing.
• For proper function of the navigation system, rotation angle sensor in unit must be set corresponding to installation position of unit in the vehicle. Therefore, always pay close attention to the part number when replacing the unit. The navigation system will not work properly if the incorrect radio is installed.
• Using an antenna that is attached to the rear lid by magnets could cause the compass module to not work correctly. Even after removing the antenna the malfunctions could continue due to the continual magnetizing of the rear lid. Ask the customer is an antenna with magnets was used before attempting to perform a repair if the customer complains the compass shows inaccurate or wrong directions.
• Check all vehicle equipment (clock, Convenience System, etc.) after connecting the battery.

• Likewise, the CD player cannot play 8 cm CDs or shape CDs.
Anti-Theft Coding
The radio/RNS has electronic Convenience anti-theft protection, which works with the instrument cluster.
After disconnecting the radio power supply, the radio/RNS is ready for use again once the power supply is connected. The anti-theft code does not need to be entered again. The requirement is that the first activation of the anti-theft system follows and that the radio/RNS is reconnected in the same vehicle.
The anti-theft code is transmitted via Vehicle Diagnostic Tester. The radio card and the label on the radio that were used in the past are no longer used.
Anti-Theft Coding, Identifying Code
• The Vehicle Diagnostic Tester must be "online" (connected to the network) in order to get the anti-theft code. The user must have the proper authorization to access the anti-theft code.
Select "Guided Functions" or "Guided Fault Finding" in the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
After all control modules have been checked:
- Press "GO TO".
- Select "Functions/Component selection".
- Select "Body".
- Select "Electrical Equipment".
- Select "01 - Systems capable of self-diagnosis".
- Select "radio or radio navigation system".
- Select "Functions".
- Select and start "radio code inquiry".
An authorization to the system will be requested: Then the operating data, the VIN and the radio serial number of the radio/navigation system will be automatically read out.
• The Vehicle Diagnostic Tester may not be able to read the serial number of the radio/RNS when installing either a new radio or a radio/RNS that is not adapted to the vehicle. In this case enter the serial number manually. The serial number can be found on a sticker on the unit and is also stamped into the side of the unit.
The radio code will then display on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
- Enter the anti-theft code manually.
Anti-Theft Coding, Deactivating
- Turn on the radio/RNS.
"SAFE" appears in the display for approximately 10 seconds, after that "1000"appears.
- Enter the code using the buttons on the radio.
"OK" appears in the display after the four-digit radio code number has been entered.
- Press the input button if the correct code was entered.
The radio/RNS is enabled and is ready to be used.
• It is possible to enter the code again if it was entered incorrectly.
• "SAFE" will appear in the display blinking at first, then "1000" appears.
• The number of tries is shown in the display.
• If anti-theft code is entered incorrectly twice, then the radio/RNS will lock up for one hour.
• When "SAFE" appears in the displays and is not blinking, this means the lock is on.
• Leave the radio/RNS and ignition on.
• The procedure can be repeated after one hour.
• This is the cycle: 2 attempts to enter the code, after this the radio/RNS is blocked for one hour.
