Selector Shaft Seal






Selector Shaft Seal

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Sleeve (VW 423)

Pulling Hook (T20143/1)

Sealing Grease for Seal (G 052 128 A1)

- Remove the air filter housing if it is located above the selector shaft.

with a Metal Relay Lever






- Remove the clip - 2 - and the relay lever - 3 -.

If the relay lever cannot be removed due to the transmission mount bracket, remove the selector cable from the relay lever. Remove the slide shoe from the transmission shift lever.

with a Plastic Relay Lever

- Remove the relay lever with the cable retainer. Refer to => [ Plastic Relay Lever ] Plastic Relay Lever.

Continuation for All

- Remove the nut - 4 - and the transmission shift lever - 1 -.

- Pry out the shaft seal using the pulling hook (T20143/1).






- Lightly coat the outer circumference of the new seal with oil.






- Fill the area between the sealing and dust lips - arrow - halfway with sealing grease for seal (G 052 128 A1).

- Install the seal using the sleeve (VW 423).






Further installation is in the reverse order of removal.

- Install the transmission shift lever to the gear shift shaft => [ (Item 1) Nut ] Gear Shift Unit Overview and tighten the nut (- item 1 - in the => [ Gear Shift Unit Overview ] Gear Shift Unit Overview) to specification.

The gear shift lever can be installed in only one position.

- Adjust the shift mechanism. Refer to => [ Shift Mechanism, Adjusting ] Adjustments.

- If removed, install the entire air filter housing.
