Jetta From MY 2011 With 2.0L TDI CR Engine
Transmission, Removing
Short Description
The transmission is remove downward by itself.
Remove the battery, the air filter housing and the starter from above.
Disconnect the coolant hoses from above. Before removing the subframe, the engine and transmission must be supported.
From underneath:
The subframe, pendulum support, steering gear and both control arms are removed together.
If done correctly, the subframe can be removed and installed without the customer experiencing increased tire wear later. It is recommended to read this information prior to removing the transmission. This way, the subframe can be secured and removed correctly.
Locating pins (T10096) and fixation tool (set = 2 pcs) (T10452) will be needed.
If the subframe is not secured by the pins, then late an alignment will be necessary.
In this case, an alignment is unnecessary. It would be a lot of work and an unnecessary charge!
Installing the locating pins (T10096) and fixation tool (set = 2 pcs) (T10452) is simple. It is very useful though.

Procedure
- Move the selector lever into the"P" position.
• The battery ground cable must be disconnected for the remainder of the procedure. So, if a coded radio is installed. Obtain the anti-theft code beforehand, if necessary.
- Turn off the ignition and disconnect the battery ground cable.
- Remove the engine cover.
- Remove the air filter housing.
- Remove the battery and the battery tray.
- Remove the selector lever cable lock washers - arrows - from the transmission.
• Use pliers to remove the lock washers. Do not use a sharp edged tool. This could damage the rubber grommet.
Both lock washers must be replaced when adjusting the cable.
Remove the cable from the transmission cable bracket. Do not bend the cable.
You can also slide the cable back slightly from the cable bracket and remove it later when lowering the transmission. Watch the cable when lowering the transmission.
During later installation, only install new lock washers after you have checked and adjusted the cable. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable, Checking ] Selector Lever Cable, Checking.
- Place lint free clothes under the transmission fluid cooler and on the transmission to absorb leaking coolant.
- Clamp of the coolant hoses using hose clamps up to 25 mm dia. (3094) and remove the hoses from the transmission fluid cooler.
- Seal the transmission fluid cooler with clean plugs.
- Remove the starter - A -.
Remove the lower bolt first.
- Disconnect the connector - 1 -.
- Remove the wire bracket nuts - arrows - and bracket from the large front transmission cover (2 M6 nuts).
- Remove the upper bolts between the engine and the transmission.
These tools are suitable for this.
One bolt is located inside the hole for the starter - arrow -. Use socket, multi point bit XZN 14 (T10061) to remove the bolt.
- Disconnect any hoses and wires in the area of the lifting eyes on the engine.
- Remove the upper engine/transmission bolts.
- Remove the plenum chamber cover.
- Remove the radiator grille.
- Install the engine support bridge (10-222 A) and support the engine and transmission. Do not lift the vehicle.
1. Adapter (10-222 A/31-2)
2. Spindle (10-222 A/11)
3. Bracket (T40091/3)
4. Engine support adapter (10-222 A/3)
5. Bracket with spindle and hook (10-222 A/10)
6. Adapter (10-222 A/31-1)
7. Adapter (10-222 A/31-3)
8. Adapter (10-222 A/31-4)
9. Engine support bridge (T40091/1)
10. Adapter (10-222 A/18)
- Pretension the engine/transmission assembly with the spindles, but do not lift it.
- Loosen the left and right front wheel bolts.
- Lift the vehicle, all 4 lift points of the hoist are at the same height.
- Remove the front wheels.
- Remove the noise insulation.
- Remove the left front wheel housing liner.
- Separate the exhaust system at the clamping sleeve and remove the suspended mount bolts - arrows - from the subframe.
- Tie up the front exhaust pipe.
• Do not bend the flex coupling in the front exhaust pipe more than 10° or it will be damaged.
- Remove the pendulum support bolts - 11 - from the transmission.
- Secure the subframe.
• If the subframe is not secured, a vehicle alignment must be performed later.
- Remove the subframe and steering gear.
- Remove the right drive axle heat shield bolts - arrows - and shield.
- Remove the drive axles from the transmission.
- Secure the right drive axle as high up as possible.
- Move the left drive axle to the rear and secure it. Be careful not to damage the surface protection.
- There may be a small cover plate between the engine and transmission above the right flange shaft. Remove the cover plate - A -, if equipped.
- Remove the transmission mount to transmission mount bracket bolts - 2 - and the transmission mount bracket to transmission bolt - 1 -.
- Then, lower the engine/transmission slightly using the engine support bridge (10-222 A) spindles so the bracket can be removed.
- Remove the bracket - arrow -.
To remove the transmission, the transmission support (3282) must be equipped with the adjustment plate (3282/42A) and positioned on the engine-/gearbox jack (V.A.G 1383 A).
- Align the arms of the transmission support so that they match up with the holes in the adjustment plate (3282/42A).
- Install the support elements on the adjustment plate (3282/42A) as illustrated.
