Left Flange Shaft or Seal






Left Flange Shaft or Seal

Do not remove the bolts from the right and left flange shafts or the right stub shaft and left flange shaft at the same time. If the differential bevel gears rotate, it will be difficult to reinstall the bolts.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Slide Hammer-Complete Set (VW 771)

Additional Part for VW 771 (VW 771/37)

Thrust Piece (3305)

Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

Torque Wrench (40-200 Nm) (V.A.G 1332)

Drip Tray for VAS 6100 (VAS 6208)

Sealing Grease for Seal (G 052 128 A1)

Removing

- Remove the left wheel.

- Remove the noise insulation.

- Remove the lower section of the left front wheel housing liner.

- Remove the left drive axle.

- Place the drip tray for VAS 6100 (VAS 6208) under the transmission.

- Remove the bolt for the flange shaft, by installing two bolts into the flange and counter holding the flange shaft using a pry bar.






- Remove the flange shaft together with the spring.

- Remove the flange shaft seal using the slide hammer-complete set (VW 771) and the additional part for VW 771 (VW 771/37).






Installing

- Lightly lubricate the outer circumference of the new seal.

- Fill the space - arrow - between the sealing and dust lips halfway with sealing grease for seal (G 052 128 A1).






- Install the seal without tilting it, until seated.






- Install the flange shaft.

- Tighten the new flange shaft bolt to 30 Nm. Push the flange shaft against the transmission so that the bolt engages in the threads.

- Install the left drive axle.

- Install the left front wheel housing liner.

- Install the left wheel.

- Check the fluid level and fill if necessary. Refer to => [ Transmission Fluid Level, Checking and Filling ] Transmission Fluid Level, Checking and Filling.

- Install the noise insulation.
