Transmission Fluid Level, Checking and Filling
Transmission Fluid Level, Checking and Filling
Note the following information:
• Use the transmission fluid that is available as a replacement part.
• It may be necessary to use the adapter (VAS 6262/6) on some transmission fluid containers.
• It may be necessary to shorten the pipe on the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262 A).
Shorten the Pipe on the (VAS 6262 A) as Follows:
- Shorten the pipe to dimension - a -. This assures the pipe will not touch the bottom of some containers.
- a - = 210 mm
• Dimension - a - is measured starting from the green surface on the cap.
- Cut the pipe using the pipe cutter (VAS 6056/2).
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (for example (VAS 5051B) )
• Used Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782)
• Adapter for Oil Filling (VAS 6262 A)
Requirements:
• The vehicle is level and all hoist supports are the same height.
• The noise insulation has been removed.
• The vehicle diagnostic tester is connected
• The transmission fluid should not be warmer than 45° C (113 °F) when starting the procedure.
• Test temperature: 35 - 45 °C (95-113 °F)
Checking:
- Connect the vehicle diagnostic tester and identify the vehicle in Guided Functions.
- Select DSG transmission.
- Select Check Fluid Level.
• Let the transmission cool down if the fluid temperature is higher than 45 °C (113 °F).
The engine is idling and the selector lever is in the "P" position.
- Remove the drain plug.
Up to transmission production date "September 20, 2004", transmissions with two plugs were installed.
It is important to not switch the plugs. Remove the plug - A - near the pendulum support
Transmissions installed after September 20, 2004, have only one plug - A -.
- Always replace the seal - arrow - on the plug.
• Even if the level of fluid is too low, at first, a small amount of fluid will leak out of the overflow tube, because it fills during operation.
- Let the excess fluid drain.
- Install the plug (with a new seal) as soon as all the fluid has drained out (it starts to drip).
- If no transmission fluid comes out, then fill.
Adding:
- Install the adapter from the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262 A) into the plug hole, hand tight.
- Shake the bottles before opening.
- Install the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262 A) to the fluid bottle. Be sure to read the instructions.
- Fill with 1 liter of transmission fluid.
- Connect the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262 A) to the quick release coupling and check:
If fluid flows out of the hole:
The fluid must not be topped off.
- Let the excess fluid drain.
- As soon as the fluid has run out (it begins to drip), remove the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6262 A) and install the plug (with a new seal).
If no fluid flows out of the hole:
- Add another liter of fluid. Refer to => [ Transmission Fluid Level, Checking and Filling ] Transmission Fluid Level, Checking and Filling.
Too little or too much transmission fluid will impair the transmission.
