Shock Absorber and Coil Spring Overview
• Welding and straightening work on supporting or wheel carrying components of the suspension is not permitted.
• Always replace self-locking nuts.
• Always replace corroded bolts/nuts.
• Bonded rubber bushings can only be turned to a limited extent. Therefore, the threaded connections of the components with bonded rubber bushings should only be tightened when the wheel bearing housing is lifted (curb weight position). Refer to => [ Rear Axle, Lifting to Curb Weight Position ] Rear Suspension.
1 Spring Seat
2 Coil Spring
• Note color code.
• For the correct allocation, refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).
• There are different versions of the suspension. Refer to => [ Explanation on the Vehicle Data Label ] Application and ID.
• Surface of spring coil may not be damaged.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Coil Spring ] Coil Spring.
3 Base Plate
• Check the washer for damage.
4 Bolt
• 40 Nm + 90° turn
• Tighten in the curb weight position. Refer to => [ Rear Axle, Lifting to Curb Weight Position ] Rear Suspension.
• Always replace if removed.
5 Shock Absorbers
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Shock Absorber ] Shock Absorber.
• For the correct allocation, refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).
6 Bolt
• 50 Nm + 90° turn
• Always replace if removed.
7 Nut
• Self-locking
• Always replace if removed.
8 Axle Beam
• Assembly surface and threaded hole for stub axle free of paint and dirt.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Axle Beam ] Axle Beam.
