Passenger Occupant Detection System Pressure Sensor


Observe safety precautions when working on seat occupied recognition. Refer to => [ Passive Occupant Detection System Safety Precautions ] Service Precautions.

Both the passenger occupant detection system pressure sensor (G452) and the front seat cushion must be replaced together.

The passenger occupant detection system control module (J706) may not be replaced separately.

The passenger occupant detection system pressure sensor (G452) can be removed and installed on a manual "Comfort" front seat.

Removing and installing on the other versions of the front seat is identical.

Removing

- Install the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136) on the engine/transmission holder (VAS 6095).

- Remove the front seat => [ Front Seat ] Front Seat.

- Secure the seat on the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136).

- Remove the right trim on the seat. Refer to => [ Right Seat Trim ] Right Seat Trim.

Vehicles with Manual Seat Adjustment

- Remove the left trim on the seat:

Remove the left trim on the seat without height adjustment. Refer to => [ Left Seat Trim without Height Adjustment ] Left Seat Trim without Height Adjustment.

Remove the left trim on the seat with manual height adjustment. Refer to => [ Left Seat Trim with Manual Height Adjustment ] Left Seat Trim with Manual Height Adjustment.

- Remove the bracket and the lever on the front seat. Refer to => [ Front Seat Bracket and Operating Lever ] Front Seat Bracket and Operating Lever.

Vehicles with Electric Seat Adjustment

- Remove the left trim on the seat with power height adjustment. Refer to => [ Left Seat Trim with Power Height Adjustment ] Left Seat Trim with Power Height Adjustment.

- Remove the bracket on the power seat. Refer to => [ Power Seat Bracket ] Power Seat Bracket.

All Vehicles

- Remove the mount for the drawer (if equipped) on the front seat. Refer to => [ Front Seat Drawer with Bracket ] Front Seat Drawer with Bracket.

- Remove the front seat backrest - 1 -. Refer to => [ Front Seat Backrest ] Front Seat Backrest.

- Remove cover from upholstery of front seat cushion (front seat cushion is not removed) => [ Front Seat Cushion, Cover and Upholstery ] Front Seat Cushion, Cover and Upholstery.

- if equipped, disconnect the connector for the front seat cushion heating element.

- Disconnect the connector - 4 - on the sensor mat - 2 - from the passenger occupant detection system control module (J706) - 3 -.

- Remove the wiring harness - 5 - for the sensor mat from the seat frame.

- Remove the seat cushion and passenger occupant detection system pressure sensor (G452) - 2 - from the lower seat frame.


The passenger occupant detection system pressure sensor (G452) - 1 - is permanently glued to the seat cushion - 2 -. It is not possible to remove and install separately, sensor mat must be replaced with upholstery.

If there is a seat heating element, it must also be replaced. Removing and installing it separately is not permitted.






To prevent any removed components from being installed again by mistake, the components should be separated from each other and disposed.

The following work applies to these components.

- Remove the wiring harness - 2 - for the sensor - 3 - from the channel and guide it through the seat cushion - 1 -.






- Loosen the passenger occupant detection system pressure sensor (G452) - 1 - from the seat cushion - 2 - starting from - direction of arrow A - to - direction of arrow B -.

- Remove the passenger occupant detection system pressure sensor (G452) - 1 - from the seat cushion - 2 -.






Installation

Route the passenger occupant detection system pressure sensor (G452) must be positioned without wrinkles.

After replacing the passenger occupant detection system, passenger classification system basic setting must be performed with the Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051B) in "Guided Fault Finding". Refer to => [ Airbag Components, Adapting ] Testing and Inspection.

On vehicles with seat heating, make sure the heating element is always installed under the passenger occupant detection system pressure sensor (G452). The sensor mat will not function correctly otherwise.

On the "Sport" version, the sensor - 2 - must be disconnected before installing the front sensor - 1 -. There are no sensors in the sensor section - 1 -.







The basic setting must be performed with the seat empty.

- Place the passenger occupant detection system pressure sensor (G452) - 2 - on the seat cushion - 4 -.

- Position the sensor mat - 2 - on the seat cushion - 4 - so that the positioning aids - 5 - and - 6 - line up with each other.

- Peel the protective film - 1 - off the center positioning tape and tape it to the sensor mat - 2 - with light pressure.

- Peel the protective film - 3 - off the center positioning tape and tape it to the sensor mat - 2 - with light pressure.






- Press the sensor mat in the front and fit it on the seat cushion.

- Peel the protective film - 1 - off the front side positioning tape and tape it to the sensor mat - 2 - with light pressure.

- Peel the protective film - 5 - off the front side positioning tape and tape it to the sensor mat - 6 - with light pressure.

- Peel the protective film - 3 - off the front center positioning tape and tape it to the sensor mat - 4 - with light pressure.






- Press the sensor mat in the rear and fit it on the seat cushion.

- Peel the protective film - 5 - off the rear side positioning tape and tape it to the sensor mat - 1 - with light pressure.

- Peel the protective film - 4 - off the rear side positioning tape and tape it to the sensor mat - 2 - with light pressure.






- Guide the wiring harness - 1 - through the opening in the seat cushion - 2 - and secure it to the channel - 3 -.

Make sure the entire wiring harness - 1 - is guided through the seat cushion - 2 - and that there are no wires inside the channel - 3 -.






- Install the sensor mat wiring harness - 4 - on the seat frame - 3 - and secure it.

- Connect the connector - 1 - on the wiring harness - 4 - to the passenger occupant detection system control module (J706) - 2 -.






Further assembling is in reverse order of removal.


Ensure no one is in the vehicle when the battery is connected.

- Connect the battery.
